Stockade

Villages in Minecraft are open to anything that wanders in. Stockade gives larger villages a defensive wall that looks like the villagers built it themselves. Each wall follows its village and its ground, and is built from materials of its biome.

What gets built

  • A wall that follows the village: no perfect squares or circles. The wall hugs the outer houses and fields and goes up and down with the ground.
  • Two gates, placed where the main streets leave the village:
    • stone gatehouses with a wooden beam and an arch;
    • log towers with railings;
    • or sandstone towers in the desert.
    • Each gate has a lantern, torches and hay bales.
  • 2 to 5 watchtowers along the wall, depending on its length. They are 2×2 towers with battlements, a lantern on top and a ladder on the inside so you can climb up.
  • Details that make it feel lived in:
    • posts with lanterns;
    • buttresses;
    • ivy on old stone;
    • planks nailed behind log palisades;
    • flowering hedges;
    • sand blown against desert walls;
    • paths leading out of the gates.
  • Water and holes:
    • The wall goes around ponds, holes and small lakes when the detour is reasonable.
    • Rivers and ravines up to 60 blocks wide are crossed with a bridge built from the same materials as the wall, and one of the gates sits at the bridge.
    • Bridge pillars only go down to solid ground. Over deep ravines, the bridge rests on beams instead.
