Description
Minecraft's mountains are the biggest landscapes in the game, and they give you nothing to do. Summiteer makes them worth climbing.
The weather fights back
- Above the treeline, gusts of wind push you off ledges. A whoosh and a rush of snow warn you two seconds ahead: crouch to brace, or get under a roof. Gliders get blown about even more.
- In a snowstorm up high, or on a summit at night, the cold starts to freeze you. A fire or a lit campfire keeps it off.
- When it rains below, it snows on the summits, in a whiteout that closes the fog in around you.
Dress for the climb
- A beanie, parka, snow pants and wool socks, knitted from any wool and dyeable like leather. Each piece slows the freezing; the full set with climbing gloves keeps the cold off. They are only as tough as leather, so you choose between staying warm and staying armoured.
Gear up like a mountaineer
- Ice axe: hold it and walk into snow, ice, or bare rock above the treeline to climb. Sneak to hang on, and if you fall past a wall you slide down it unhurt.
- Climbing gloves: warm hands and a faster climb.
- Crampons: no slipping on ice, you walk on powder snow, and the wind pushes you half as hard.
- Snow goggles: see much further in a whiteout.
- Right-click the gloves, crampons or goggles to put them on. They show on your character, over any armour.
Base camp
- Rope and anchors: set an anchor at a cliff edge and right-click it with rope. The rope unrolls to the ground, up to 32 blocks. Climb it like a ladder (faster in climbing gloves), then sneak-right-click the anchor to reel it all back in. Works on any cliff, ravine or build.
- Trail cairns: mark your way up. Each gives off a little light, and in a whiteout it chimes softly every few seconds, so you can follow the sound back down.
- Base camp tent: a bed you can carry, in every wool colour. Set your respawn, sleep through the night, then pack it up and take it with you.
- The wind takes your pearls: up high, a thrown ender pearl drifts downwind, so you climb instead of pearling past the hard part.
- Advancements: a Summiteer tab of nine milestones, from your first climb above the treeline to a summit whiteout and a pearl blown off course.
Coming next: three mountain temples, each with a boss guarding the key to the next. Avalanches later.
Runs on Minecraft 26.3 and 1.21.1, Fabric and NeoForge. Needs Curios (NeoForge), or Trinkets Updated (Fabric, 26.3) / Trinkets (Fabric, 1.21.1).
Works with tall-terrain mods: nothing uses a fixed height, so Tectonic, Terralith and Amplified worlds just work (tested with Tectonic and Terralith). The treeline and summit heights, and the wind, cold and whiteouts, can be changed in config/summiteer.properties.
