About

Description

SY Works is three machines and a trash can, nothing else. It adds no items of its own — vanilla goes in, vanilla comes out — so there is nothing new to learn beyond the blocks themselves.

Play long enough and the useless piles up: stacks of cobblestone, granite, diorite and andesite, dirt, stairs and fences torn out of a dungeon, planks left over from a build. Most of it ends up in a lava pit. These machines hand it back as something vanilla already knows, plus experience.

The machines split by physical process, the way vanilla put a smoker and a blast furnace next to the furnace. You never need to memorise a table — look at what is in your hand and you know where it goes.

Ore is roasted, rock is crushed, wood is charred.

🔥 Ore Roaster — the one real decision

In vanilla, Silk Touch is a straight loss on mining yield: smelt the ore block back and you get one. So every serious miner takes Fortune and there is nothing to think about.

The roaster pays better than smelting the block, but stays under Fortune III on every single ore. It is an alternative, not an upgrade — certain instead of random, and it costs fuel and time.

Copper67.7
Redstone56.0
Lapis78.0
Nether gold6 nuggets8.8

Deepslate variants included. Ancient debris is deliberately excluded — Fortune does not work on it, so any bonus would be a pure gain on the netherite gate rather than a trade. Output is raw material, so the furnace keeps its smelting job.

⛏️ Crusher — where the junk goes

Rock, and every stair, wall, slab and polished cut of it — 101 items — go down one chain:

rock → gravel → sand

Sand and gravel have no crafting recipe in vanilla at all. Deserts get strip-mined and never come back. This is the gap it fills, and it costs nothing in power: sand buys glass, concrete and TNT.

Two exceptions, both real geology. Tuff becomes clay — volcanic ash genuinely alters into bentonite, and it is the only rock that does; grinding quartz finer just makes fine quartz. Calcite and dripstone become bone meal, because ground limestone is agricultural lime. Dirt skips straight to sand, since soil is already sand, silt and clay rather than rock.

🪵 Charcoal Kiln — what the furnace refuses

Vanilla's charcoal recipe takes logs and nothing else. Planks, stairs, slabs, fences, doors, trapdoors, signs, sticks, ladders and bowls have no exit — and those are exactly what a dungeon or a demolished build leaves behind.

The kiln takes all of them, takes logs too, and pays double, because a machine built for one job should beat the furnace at it. One rule sets every rate: twice the log-equivalent. A log gives 2, two planks give 1, four slabs or sticks give 1. No route through the crafting grid gains anything — a log, the four planks it makes, the eight slabs those make, all land on the same number.

Crimson, warped and bamboo stay out: they are fungus and grass, and vanilla will not char them either.

✨ Experience

Every machine pays experience, collected when you take the output, exactly as a furnace does. A hopper draining the machine collects none. Breaking the block spills what it had earned.

🧭 What this mod does not do

  • No new items. Not one.
  • No gear tiers. Nothing here is stronger than what vanilla already gives you.
  • Nothing that feeds progression. No iron, gold, diamonds, nether quartz or gunpowder out of worthless blocks. The only place it touches progression is the roaster, and that is a trade.
  • It does not take vanilla's jobs. The enchanting table, villager trades and chest loot are untouched.

Requirements

  • Minecraft 26.2 (Java 25)
  • NeoForge 26.2
  • No other mods required, and it depends on none.
