Description
✦ Talking to mobs
- Press H while looking at any mob within 4 blocks (configurable).
- Crosshair tooltip: the mob’s name, personality, a red-to-green mood bar, and a pink friendship bar.
- Talk screen: a scrolling chat, a swaying 3D model of the mob, quick-reply buttons, what the mob is wearing, its pockets, and your inventory.
- Type anything. The mob reads your words for what you want, and replies in the voice of its personality.
Six personalities change how a mob talks and what it accepts: Aggressive, Cowardly, Greedy, Friendly, Stoic, Paranoid.
Replies are written lines chosen by personality and mood. The mod uses no AI and no internet connection.
✦ Moods, memory and quirks
Mood runs from Furious to Grateful and changes how a mob reacts.
- Weather: rain and thunderstorms make everyone grumpier.
- Goldfish memory: moods drift back toward the mob’s resting mood. Good moods fade faster than grudges.
- Grudges: hitting a mob tanks its opinion of you.
- Flattery fatigue: repeating yourself works less each time.
- Trapped mobs: mobs boxed into 1×1 stalls, cells or grinders get paranoid and harder to persuade.
- Furious mobs: deeply angry mobs often refuse to listen at all.
- Accents: each reply opens with the mob’s own noise, like ssss for a creeper.
Moods and friendship are saved with your world.
✦ Persuasion: ask for almost anything
Whether a mob agrees depends on its mood, its personality, your XP level, your friendship, any gifts, and how big the request is. Every mob type can:
- Drop its armor and weapons, with no take-backs: it stops picking up loot afterward.
- Be ridden (see below).
- Teleport you to coordinates, spawn, your bed, or a named place. Chunks load in the background, so the server doesn’t freeze.
- Hand over loot (see below).
- Calm down and stand down.
- Tell a joke or describe how it feels.
Enderman exclusive: only Endermen will teleport you to the stronghold’s portal room. The quick button for it only appears when you talk to an Enderman.
✦ Ride any mob, anywhere
Ask “Can I ride you?” and any mob becomes a mount.
Drive it yourself: WASD, mouse, Space to jump and Ctrl to sprint, like a horse. Shift gets you off. A safety brake stops a mob from stepping into lava, fire, cactus, magma, voids or big drops while you steer (switchable).
Or tell it where to go. A ridden mob can head to:
- coordinates, or a direction (“north 200”)
- spawn, your bed, or a big cave
- any structure, biome or point of interest by name in the dimension you’re in, in the Overworld, Nether and End: village, ancient city, nether fortress, end city, mushroom fields, soul sand valley, nether portal, bell…
On the way, the mob:
- picks safe hops and walks around lava, fire, cactus, drops and walls
- spawns a boat, sails across water, lands and carries on
- digs down or up to reach underground or high structures, and tunnels through rock
- bridges gaps, lava and the End void
- gives you and itself Water Breathing if you go underwater
A route panel in the top-right shows the mob and a live map with start, destination, trail and distance. If you grab the reins, the map stays on so you can drive there yourself. Say “continue” to hand control back to autopilot. While ridden, the mob’s own wandering and grazing are switched off so it can’t fight you, and slow mobs get a minimum pace (adjustable).
✦ Pockets and bribes
The talk screen shows the mob’s pockets.
- Left-click an item in your inventory to give it to the mob. Shift-click gives the whole stack.
- There’s also a Give held item button, and you can simply type it: “here, take my emerald”.
- Every item shows a bribe value from Worthless to Excellent, based on that mob’s mood and personality. Greedy mobs value gifts double.
- Ask for it back: the mob answers yes or no. A gift it hasn’t used yet is easy to get back, and one it already accepted as payment is hard.
- Pockets are saved with the mob and drop when it dies.
✦ Friendship and trust
Gifts, kind words and finished trips build friendship: Stranger → Acquaintance → Friend → Close friend → Best friend.
Friends:
- settle into a warmer mood
- agree to requests more often
- give gifts back more easily
- give villager discounts
- let you pick more loot
- are more generous
Hitting or insulting a mob loses it fast.
✦ Loot on request
Ask for loot and, if the mob agrees, a menu appears listing what that kind of mob can actually drop. Click an item and it goes straight into your inventory. Close friends let you pick several. Ask for something specific (“give me a bone”) and it hands it over if it has it. A villager has nothing to give.
✦ Calm mobs
A mob will not attack you while you’re talking to it (the screen keeps it calm as long as it’s open), while you ride it, or once it’s your friend, even if it’s a hostile mob.
✦ Villagers
Trade prices follow the villager’s mood every time you open a trade: insult one and prices climb, win one over and you get discounts. Friendship adds to the discount.
✦ Enemy packs and commanders
When 3 or more hostile mobs hunt you together, one becomes the commander and shouts orders: focus fire, flank (with larger packs) and retreat when it’s weak. Orders appear in chat and as a bubble over its head.

⚙ Config (config/mobtalk.properties)
range: how far away you can talk to a mob (default 4)ride.speed: speed multiplier for ridden mobs (default 1.4)dig.enabled: let mobs dig and bridge on trips (default true)ride.safety: steering brake against lava, drops and fire (default true)
⚠ Good to know
- Mobs can’t walk between dimensions. Ask for places in the dimension you’re in.
- Finding rare structures can freeze the server for a moment, like the vanilla
/locatecommand. - With
dig.enabled=true, ridden mobs break blocks on their route, with no drops. Turn it off on servers where that isn’t wanted. - Moods, friendship and gifts belong to the mob, so on a server they’re shared between players.
- Mobs that hop (slimes) or fly and swim may move oddly when steered.
- The mod hooks mob targeting, movement and villager prices, so it may conflict with other mods that change those.
