Description
This datapack moves the generation of the world to the bottom of the allowed world height (y=-2032). With the max build limit at y=2031, this allows for a total effective build limit of 4064 blocks! Even in survival mode! This datapack only alters vanilla Overworld by moving EVERYTHING down. There are no super caves or super mountains. The Nether and End are still at their defaults (for now).
Other datapacks only alter a few values in the dimension_type folder. While this does allow you to build below y=-64, it is only reasonable to do in creative. For those that prefer the survival experience, the "effective" build limit is only 2096 blocks (-64 -> 2031). Tallest Limits alters the noise settings and all relevant structure and biome files that affect terrain generation. This lowers the bedrock layer, making it impossible to build below the world, leaving only the space above to build as tall as you want. This maximizes your "effective" build limit in survival to 4064 blocks.
I am new to this and just wanted to get something out there for people who might be interested. I will try to fix everything outlined below and keep this as a datapack, but I might have to make it into a mod instead.
KNOWN ISSUES AND LIMITATIONS
- Their is no water in oceans or rivers. Due to how lava generates below certain y-values and how it is affected by sea-level (don't ask me why. Mojang funny like that), I have lowered the sea-level to bedrock, removing all water that is supposed to spawn on the surface. Thankfully, the game automatically generates a grass layer and foliage wherever there is no water so it doesn't actually look that bad. There are still aquifers and lakes.
- Ocean monuments generate REALLY REALLY TALL!! They are hardcoded to have their roof generate at y=61 with the legs reaching all the way to the surface, which is now around y=-1900. I have removed ocean monuments for now.
- Packed ice generates weird in frozen oceans. I changed the temperature values to fix.
- Badlands do not generate their colorful layers. That feature is hardcoded and causes fatal errors, so I have removed it.
- In the game logs, sometimes you may see a "Empty height range..." error. There might be some things that never generate because of this.
- There can be occasional performance issues due to how each chunk is synced from bottom to top, regardless of player position.
- The horizon is dark at around y=63 and below.
