Description
Tectonic Layers
Tectonic Layers turns the Overworld into a vertically stacked world: the Nether exists deep below the surface, the normal Overworld stays in the middle, and the End exists high above the world.
Instead of using separate dimensions for everything, the mod builds a continuous layered world where you can travel vertically between environments. The goal is to make Minecraft feel like one huge connected planet, while still preserving the identity of the Nether and the End.
Features
- Nether layer below the Overworld.
- End layer above the Overworld.
- Native layered world generation using a custom layered chunk generator.
- Correct Nether and End biomes by height.
- Nether and End fog, sky, and lighting behavior inside the stacked Overworld.
- Vertical portal routing for Nether/End travel.
- Imported Nether and End terrain support.
- Stacked End island and End dragon support.
- End exit portal handling.
- Persistent layer state to avoid re-importing converted chunks after relogging.
- Compatibility-focused design for modded Nether terrain.
Required dependencies
This mod requires:
- NeoForge for Minecraft 1.21.1
- Tectonic
- Lithostitched 1.6.0 or newer
- Amplified Nether 1.2.14 or newer
Tectonic and Lithostitched provide the world generation foundation this mod is built around. Amplified Nether is required because Tectonic Layers uses the real Nether source terrain as the basis for the deep Nether layer.
Important beta warning
This is a beta world generation mod. It changes dimensions, terrain generation, chunk conversion, portals, lighting, fog, and End behavior.
Back up your worlds before installing or updating.
For the best results, use this in a new world. Existing worlds may have already-generated chunks that do not fully match the stacked layout.
Compatibility notes
Tectonic Layers is designed around Tectonic, Lithostitched, and Amplified Nether. Other biome, structure, or Nether/End mods may work, but compatibility is still experimental.
Known areas still being tested:
- Modded Nether mob spawning.
- Modded structures in stacked layers.
- Long-term End fight behavior.
- Relog behavior around edited/imported chunks.
Recommended use
Create a new world with the required dependencies installed, then explore vertically:
- Go deep underground to reach the Nether layer.
- Travel above the Overworld height to reach the End layer.
- Use portals and End progression normally where supported.
This beta is intended for testing, feedback, and compatibility reports.
