Description
Tempo Not Time
Tempo Not Time is an addon for Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks that reworks how you spend and recover between casts. Instead of watching a mana bar drain and refill over time, you manage a small pool of charges per spell and a shared casting reserve that fills back up as your cooldowns finish. Iron's spell costs, cooldowns, equipment bonuses, and all addon content stay as the balance source — Tempo Not Time just changes what that spending means in play.
Think of it as: you still pick the same spells, but the rhythm of casting shifts from "wait for mana" to "juggle what's recharging."
What changes
- Casting Reserve — Iron's Max Mana becomes a shared reserve pool. Active recharges hold onto a portion of it until they finish, so spamming everything at once has a real cost.
- Spell Charges — each spell gets a number of usable charges based on your reserve and the spell's cost. Spent charges recharge independently, so you can fire a few quick shots and keep going while others recover.
- Cooldown Load — the more spells recovering at the same time, the slower they all recharge. Fewer active cooldowns means faster recovery. This keeps burst-casting from feeling free.
All three systems are independent — you can run any combination, or flip the master switch off and get Iron's normal behavior back.
How it feels in play
- Your mana bar is now a Casting Reserve meter. It drains as recharges occupy slots and refills as they complete.
- Spell-bar icons show a charge count when more than one is ready.
- Cooldown shading still tracks the next charge coming back.
- Tooltips show your effective recharge time, including any cooldown-reduction bonuses.
- Recharge durations are gently normalized so a 0.5 s spell and a 12 s spell both feel like they recover at a reasonable pace relative to each other.
- Equipment, curios, potion effects, and upgrade modifiers all still apply to your numbers.
- Death, logouts, and dimension travel don't wipe your progress — cooldowns keep ticking where they left off.
Configuration
Server-side gameplay is configurable (reserve bounds, charge limits, load penalties, recharge normalization, per-spell overrides, and more). Client-side presentation follows Iron's existing mana-bar display settings, so anchor, offsets, and text style carry over.
Per-spell tweaks are supported via a simple override file — any spell not listed just uses the calculated defaults. A single command (/temponottime reload) picks up changes without a restart.
Admin commands
All require operator level 2:
/temponottime info— overview of current state/temponottime reserve— show reserve details/temponottime cooldowns— list active recharges/temponottime charges <spell>— inspect a specific spell's charges/temponottime clear— reset casting state/temponottime reload— reload config and overrides
Compatibility
- Built-in and addon spells work as-is; no per-spell compatibility list is needed.
- Player casts from spellbooks and magic swords are fully managed. Scrolls and mob-cast spells keep Iron's original behavior.
- Iron's own attributes remain intact internally, so other mods and addons that read them continue to work.
Tempo Not Time is a fan-made addon. It is not affiliated with Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks or its author.
