Description

Terroir

From the vine to the bottle.

Terroir is a wine mod for Minecraft. You plant real grape varieties on trellises, learn what your land can do, press and ferment by hand or with machines, age the wine in oak, bottle it, label it with your own name and sell it by the case or the pallet. It plays on its own: nothing else is needed, and everything else it can talk to is optional.

The vineyard

  • Twelve varieties, six white and six red - Riesling, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Gewurztraminer, Chenin Blanc, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Tempranillo and Sangiovese. Each wants its own warmth, ripens on its own day, prefers its own soil and has its own weak spots.
  • The land decides. Sun, slope and compass direction, hollows, climate and altitude, topsoil and subsoil (nine soil types), water and planting density all count - and then the weather of the vintage: late frost, hail, a wet or hot summer, rain at harvest.
  • One year, one harvest. Winter pruning, spraying in spring, thinning in summer, picking in autumn. Leave the grapes hanging and you may get noble rot, or ice wine in December - or lose everything.
  • Three trainings: trellis, pergola (big yield, thin must, more mildew) and bush vine (small, dense, drought-proof, frost-tender).
  • Tools: pruning shears, copper spray, backpack sprayer, frost candle, drip barrel and the vineyard gauge, which reads the site and tells you which varieties suit it.
  • Vines grow wild in the world. Cut a cutting, trade with the farmer or the wandering trader, or take one from your own vine when you prune.

The cellar

Crusher, basket press, fermenter and oak barrel work by hand: jump into the mash, turn the spindle, pick the pressing, watch the temperature - it comes from the place: biome, a real cellar, fire or ice nearby. Nothing is stored that can be calculated: style, quality and maturity of a wine are worked out from what you did, so every step matters. Six styles come out of the way you take (white, rose, red, sparkling, sweet, ice), and faults - bitter, oxidised, vinegar - cost you.

Machines in three stages, all running on Forge Energy:

Stage Machines
2 Destemmer, steel tank with cooling, filler, labeller
3 Pneumatic press, palletiser, cartoner, harvester
Special Riddling rack (sparkling wine), cold press (ice wine)

Bottle, label, sell

Fill the bottles, cork them, write a label with your estate name, put six in a case and cases on a pallet. The wholesaler pays by quality, style and age - a wine that has had its time is worth more than a young one - and the reputation of your estate moves the price by up to 15 per cent either way. The wholesaler pays in emeralds, or into your account with Money.

Works with

All optional, none required:

  • Tycoon Calendar (0.1.3 or newer): the vineyard follows its year and date. Without it, Terroir counts its own days.
  • Money: the wholesaler pays into your account.
  • Tycoon Retail: sell labelled bottles in your own store.
  • JEI (one page per cellar step), Jade (what a vine or machine is doing), Patchouli (the Terroir handbook, crafted from a book and a vine cutting).
  • Other mods: a small API (TerroirAPI) reads a bottle - variety, vintage, estate, peak and value on a date.

Prices, yields, energy and times are in the config; recipes and tags are data. English and German.

Minecraft 1.21.1, NeoForge 21.1.235 or newer. Works in singleplayer and on servers.

A note on how this was made

This mod was built with substantial help from AI. I gave the direction; the design, the code, the textures and this text were written by an AI assistant. I would rather say that plainly than have you wonder.
