The Forgotten Reactor

Some things were forgotten for a reason.

Long before portals became ordinary, a small machine could briefly pull the Nether into the Overworld. Its spire vanished. Its memory did not.

The Forgotten Reactor reimagines Minecraft Pocket Edition's Nether Reactor as an exploration mystery and a timed survival ritual. Recover fragments from ruined portals and ancient cities, restore the familiar gold-and-cobblestone frame, and awaken a machine that remembers each activation.

Awaken the machine

The Awakening: touch three ancient echoes in order while the core glows cyan.

The Breach: search for three Rift Fragments while Nether creatures defend an amber rift.

The Collapse: return the fragments before the red core overloads. The spectral spire is a visual effect; the event never explodes or replaces your terrain.

Three activation variations change the resources, combat pressure and atmosphere. The core retains its history when mined and placed again.

Relics and secrets

  • Echo Compass: attune to nearby ruined portals.
  • Rift Lantern: reveal hidden echoes and form temporary bridges over empty air. Bridges disappear after ten seconds.
  • Ember Shard: activate a short fire-resistance ward.
  • Reactor Heart: uncover a hidden encounter and recover a luminous decorative trophy.

Getting started

Requires Minecraft Java 1.21.1 and NeoForge 21.1.248. Put the mod JAR in your instance's mods folder. No extra libraries or shader pack are required.

Craft a Forgotten Field Journal using a book and a copper ingot. Find four Reactor Fragments, then restore the core using three iron ingots, a diamond and an amethyst shard. Assemble its frame with fourteen cobblestone and four gold blocks, and ignite the core with flint and steel.

For a quick Creative test, stand on clear ground and run /forgottenreactor demo. The command supplies a journal and flint and steel.

Created for A Love Letter to Old Minecraft. MIT licence. Verified in an isolated single-player development instance; dedicated-server and multiplayer compatibility remain unverified.
