Description

Theseus

Theseus brings a quest tree to modpacks and custom worlds. It is an unofficial, independent NeoForge fork of Heracles for Minecraft 26.1 and beyond.

Original project and credit: Heracles is part of Terrarium’s Odyssey Quests, created by Terrarium, ThatGravyBoat, and contributors. Theseus is not affiliated with or supported by the original maintainers.

Tasks cover items, XP, advancements, recipes, statistics, mobs, interactions, biomes, structures, dimensions, and locations. Composite tasks combine objectives. Item and XP tasks support automatic tracking, manual turn-ins, and resource consumption. Rewards include items, XP, loot tables, commands, and selectable choices.

Browse quests on a pannable, zoomable graph with a minimap and collapsible panels. Dependency paths show quest state, and prerequisite links can take you to blocked quests. Pin goals to the HUD tracker, read formatted descriptions, and open recipes through optional JEI or REI support. Open the quest screen with H, /theseus open, or the craftable Quest Book.

For modpack makers

Define quests as JSON files in config/theseus/quests. Group quests into chapters, link prerequisites, control visibility, and set rewards. Operators and game masters can edit quests in game, import JSON, and validate the pack. Imports report file and batch diagnostics, including duplicate JSON keys; the import window adapts to smaller screens. A demo pack is installed when the quest folder is empty.

Quest definitions are stored in the server or instance config. Progress is saved per player with the world, and a failed progress-file load will not overwrite the saved data.

For add-on developers

Register custom task and reward handlers, icon renderers, and editor metadata. Unknown add-on JSON is preserved, but the built-in editor provides forms only for built-in types.

Compatibility

Heracles-format support is partial. Legacy heracles: type IDs are not remapped automatically, and compatibility with third-party packs and add-ons is not guaranteed.
