Description
This mod adds the kiln, upgraded tiers of all furnace variants, and some misc. features around them.
The Kiln
The kiln is a furnace variant like the blast furnace or smoker, which works twice as fast as a normal furnace but can only smelt stone-related items.
Furnace Tiers
The upgraded furnace tiers work exactly the same as their base tier variant, only with a speed boost. The (default) speed multiplier for the tiers are:
- Copper: 2x
- Iron: 2.5x
- Gold: 4x
- Diamond: 10x
- Netherite: 25x
You can upgrade a furnace variant by putting it in the middle of the crafting grid and surrounding it with the material of the next tier. There are a few exceptions to this rule however:
- Iron can be crafted directly from the base tier using this method.
- Upgrading copper to iron and gold to diamond is cheaper: you can leave the corners empty
- Upgrading to netherite is done using the smithing table, just like any other piece of netherite gear.
You can also craft upgrades, which can be shift-right clicked onto a furnace to upgrade it. You can craft upgrades using the same recipes as for the furnace, only you use cobblestone in the center instead of the furnace you're upgrading.
Miscellaneous
This mod also adds some other features around the furnace variants:
- Chorus fruit can now be popped in smokers and on campfires. (A feature I personally believe should be in vanilla, because while the output may not be food, the input is, and also popping is kinda food related)
- The Peltier element, which can be used as the input in any furnace variant to generate Forge Energy (FE) from furnace fuels, or as the fuel itself, to consume power for smelting/blasingt/smoking/firing.
- The Clayworker: a new villager profession that uses the kiln (base tier only) as its jobsite. The Clayworker has various pottery- and kiln-related trades, some of which would have overlapped with the Mason, so the Mason's trades have been slightly adjusted as well. There are also Clayworker houses that can generate in all types of villages.
Configuration
The speed multipliers for all furnace tiers can be configured, as well as the energy generated (default: 20 FE/t) and consumed (default: 30 FE/t) by the Peltier element per tick. The size of furnaces' energy storage buffer (default: 100000 FE) can also be configured, as well as whether it should scale with the furnace's tier, which is disabled by default.
Why this mod
I am aware of some very similar mods existing (namely Iron Furnaces and Iron Smelters), but I still think this mod has its place in the modding ecosystem due to the misc. features I added. I made it for a modpack I'm working on, for which I wanted more than what Iron Smelters had to offer, but less than Iron Furnaces, as I wanted to keep the vanilla feel. It also turned out to be some very welcome modding practice, as I usually only write small utility/QoL mods.
