Description

Tombenpotter's Icarus

Have you ever felt like exploring the immensity of the Minecraft world, but thought that the flight methods already out there were too... easy? Tame? Boring?
Over are these days, when wings gave you free, and unlimited flight!

Icarus gives you the freedom to explore your world like you always desired, but in a totally new way! You actually need to work to be able to fly!

What makes these wings so original is the way you use them, and not what they provide!

Watch the awesome spotlight made by Corjaantje here!

To use them, you need to have them equipped in the chestplate slot. Do not worry, they do still provide protection. Once they are equipped, if you hit your jumping key, you will get launched into the air! To keep going up, jump more!

Flapping wings uses a lot of your energy, and leaves you quite hungry. Be sure to pack a lot of food if you go exploring.

If you stop jumping, you will glide down, with a speed that depends on your wings' stats.
Pay attention to the HUD, because you will accumulate more or less fall damage, even if you go down slowly. Again it all depends the wings' stats.

Do not fly too high! The sun is hot, and during daytime you will start burning and taking damage past a certain height.
Be careful, because wings get wet in water or under rain. And wet wings mean heavy wings. And heavy wings prevent you from getting any upwards momentum, and drag you down until you hit the ground.
Both of these depend on the wings' stats.

Basic physics still apply! Any object that is off ground and outside during a thunderstorm attract lightning. For instance, you, wearing your wings and flying...
Do be careful, I would be sad to hear you got zapped by a lightning bolt...

To see what the stats are, just press the shift key and hover over them in an inventory.

Something that has been added in the most recent updates is the ability to attach at chest armor to your wings.
Doing so will render both the armor and the wings on you. The wings will also take whatever protection value the armor has, and all of its special abilities.

Thaumcraft:

Botania:

Witchery:

Wings can also be enchanted, so as to boost their main capacities:

  • a flight boost enchantment allows your wings to push you up higher
  • a hover enchantment allows your wings to make you hover better
  • a waterproof enchantment protects your wings from water. But if it is too high, you might as well find yourself flying upwards against your will in case of rain...

The mod comes with a lot of configuration options. For example, you can set a list of dimensions where the wings will not be able to burn. By default the End is added.
Or you can set a list of dimensions where they will not function at all. By default, if you have Thaumcraft installed, the Outer Lands are added, even if the dimension does not figure on the config file.

Here is how the config file looks.

You are also able to precise whether or not you want the wings to hover alone, or have to press the hovering key (M by default) to do so.

You can also decide if you want to see the HUD at all, set its on-screen coords or to display the wings' stats.
But you are also able to enable or disable all the compatibility by mod. Says you have Botania installed, but for some reason don't want the Botania wings. Just hop into the config file, and turn off the Botania compatibility! It is as easy as that!

To find out what the crafting recipes are, I suggest you use NEI, all recipes are shown here.

The mod has a lot of compatibility with other mods, and even more planned! There are currently 46 different wings.

It currently adds wings for:

There is more integration planned:
