Description
This data pack allows you to trim weapons and tools. There are in total 46 tools that you can trim!
![]()
The "Data & Resource Pack" versions have to be loaded both as a data pack and as a resource pack. Alternatively, you can just use the "For Modloaders" versions as a mod.
Trimming a Tool
To trim a tool, there are 4 new smithing templates that you can use. And, just like other templates, they can also be found on strutures and duplicated using a Crafting Table:
| Smithing Template | Duplicated With | Structure | Chance (per chest) |
|---|---|---|---|
Linear |
Trail Ruins / Mineshaft | 7.6% / 5.6% | |
Tracks |
Pillager Outpost / Mansion | 37.5% / 50% | |
Charge |
Ancient City | 5% | |
Frost |
Igloo | 40% |
After you've found one of them, you can use it at a Smithing Table with one of the 11 ingots and crystals. Here's how the trim patterns look:

Advancements and other features
Advancements
There are also advancements you can get by trimming tools:
For Creative Mode
You can find the new smithing templates in the creative menu, they're in the same tab as the vanilla ones but they can also found by searching for "Tool Trims" or their pattern name. However, if you're on 1.21.1, you will have to use the command /function tooltrims:get_trims instead.

Features in versions 2.x
Toolsmithing Table
For versions 2.x of the data pack, you'll need to use a Toolsmithing table instead of the vanilla Smithing Table. It can be crafted using 2 copper ingots and 4 wood planks.
Other than trimming tools, Toolsmithing Tables are also used to duplicate the new smithing templates.
For creative mode
The new Smithing Templates and the Toolsmithing Table won't appear in the creative menu unless you enable the option "Operator Items Tab" in Controls. Alternatively, you could use the command "/function tooltrims:custom_items". It will place a chest with custom items this data pack offers, the 4 tool trim smithing templates and the Toolsmithing Table.
Commands
- /function tooltrims:custom_items - This command places a chest with all the tool trim smithing templates and the toolsmithing table
- /function tooltrims:load - This command lets you reload only the Tool Trims Data Pack, it can be useful if it isn't working as expected.
- /trigger update_item - If you used an old version of this Data Pack, this command lets you update your old trimmed tool by holding it on your main hand. (removed in v2.3.1, items update automatically after this version)
