MicroMobs — Realistic Mob Sizes

MicroMobs is a lightweight Fabric mod that adjusts the size of many mobs to better reflect their real-world biological proportions.

In vanilla Minecraft, many creatures are intentionally oversized for gameplay reasons. Spiders are huge, bees are large, and silverfish are much bigger than their real-world counterparts. also tadpole are made smaller

MicroMobs changes that.

This mod rescales many mobs so that insects become tiny, small animals feel more natural, and large creatures remain imposing, creating a more immersive ecosystem while keeping gameplay balanced.


What This Mod Does

MicroMobs automatically applies realistic scaling to many mobs when they spawn.

Scaling affects:

  • entity model

  • hitbox

  • eye height

  • shadow size

This is done using Minecraft’s built-in GENERIC_SCALE attribute, which ensures proper scaling without visual glitches or performance issues.


Example Mob Size Changes

Mob Category Examples Scale
Tiny insects Silverfish, Endermite ~10%
Small insects Bee ~18%
Arthropods Spider, Cave Spider ~22–25%
Amphibians Frog ~35%
Small animals Rabbit, Parrot, Fox, Cat ~60–75%
Medium animals Pig, Sheep, Cow, Wolf ~90–95%
Aquatic mobs Cod, Salmon, Turtle, Squid ~80–95%

Large creatures and bosses remain unchanged to preserve gameplay balance.

Examples:

Gameplay Adjustments

Because some mobs become extremely small, a few balancing tweaks are applied.

Tiny Mob Speed Boost

Small mobs move slightly faster to remain challenging.

Examples:

  • Spider ×1.2 speed

  • Bee ×1.15 speed

  • Silverfish ×1.3 speed

  • Endermite ×1.3 speed

Adjusted Sound Pitch

Some tiny mobs play sounds at a slightly higher pitch to match their smaller size.

Affected mobs:

  • Bee

  • Silverfish

  • Endermite


Fully Configurable

All mob scaling values can be customized through the config file.

Server owners and modpack creators can easily modify mob sizes or disable certain adjustments.


Performance Friendly

MicroMobs is designed to be lightweight and efficient.

Features include:

  • Attribute-based scaling (no render hacks)

  • Persistent modifiers stored in entity NBT

  • No per-tick performance overhead

Compatibility

MicroMobs is designed to be compatible with most Fabric mods.

Since it relies on Minecraft’s built-in scaling attribute, it avoids many common compatibility issues that occur with rendering-based scaling mods.
