# Tsunami Sandbox
Summon a massive wave of water or lava and watch it sweep across your Minecraft world.
Tsunami Sandbox is a command-driven mod for creative experiments, flood challenges,
map making, and server events. Choose the wave's height, speed, width, and travel
distance with a single command.
## Start a wave
Stand where you want the wave to pass, then face the direction it should come **from**:
```text
/wave spawn water 24 8
```
This creates a water wave 24 blocks high, with a requested speed of 8 blocks per
second. The default width is 513 blocks. A five-second warning displays
**Tsunami Approaching!** and plays an alarm before the wave begins.
The wave has a stepped, sloping front: lower layers lead the upper layers, with
one block of setback for every two blocks of height. It leaves real water or lava
behind as it moves.
By default, the wave starts at one edge of the effective render range, passes
through your original position, and continues to the opposite edge. The range
uses the smaller of your reported client render distance and the server view
distance, from 2 to 32 chunks. It is fixed when summoned; the wave does not chase you.
Fog and chunk loading can affect where the edge appears.
## Command reference
```text
/wave spawn <water|lava> <height> <speed> [width] [distance]
```
Angle brackets mean required values. Square brackets mean optional values.
Do not type the brackets. Commands and options are lowercase.
| Value | Meaning | Allowed range / default |
| --- | --- | --- |
| `water` or `lava` | The fluid to use | Required |
| `height` | Height in blocks above your feet when summoned | 1-128 |
| `speed` | Requested movement speed in blocks per second | 0.25-40 |
| `width` | Width of the wave in blocks | 1-2,049; default 513 |
| `distance` | Starting distance and distance beyond the target | 8-1,024; automatic render range when omitted |
Examples:
```text
/wave spawn lava 12 4
/wave spawn water 48 12 1025
/wave spawn water 16 6 513 192
```
The first summons a lava wave. The second makes a taller, wider water wave. The
third starts a water wave 192 blocks away and sends it 192 blocks beyond the target.
An explicit distance requires specifying width first.
```text
/wave status
/wave cancel
```
`status` reports progress and endpoint distances. `cancel` stops further wave
placement, including during the warning period. **Cancellation does not remove
water or lava already placed, undo damage, or stop normal fluid flow.**
Spawning, status, and cancellation require cheats in single player or operator
permission level 2 on a server. Only one wave can be active per server at a time.
Use `/wave` to display command help.
## Notification settings
```text
/wave warning off
/wave warning on
/wave finished off
/wave finished on
```
`warning` controls your on-screen approaching message. The alarm still plays when
this text is disabled. `finished` controls the completion chat message for waves
you summon. Both settings default to on and are saved per player in each world.
Everyone can change their own notification settings, even without operator access.
Use `/wave warning` or `/wave finished` without an option to check its current
setting. The options are only `on` and `off`.
## How flooding works
The mod places real fluid blocks into air and replaceable blocks while preserving
solid blocks and block entities during placement. Buildings can obstruct the flood,
and water or lava then follows Minecraft's normal fluid behavior. Lava can start
fires, and fluids can damage entities and vulnerable blocks or spread beyond the
planned area. Water waves are rejected where water evaporates, such as the Nether.
Only loaded chunks are flooded. Unloaded positions are skipped rather than forcing
terrain to load, so actual flooded width and travel coverage depend on loaded chunks.
Large waves may run slower than the requested speed. Active waves stop on a server
restart, while fluids already placed remain in the world.
**Use a backup or a separate creative world for experiments. There is no undo command.**
