Description
Vanilla Recipe Book
Tired of your recipe book freezing your game every time you open your inventory in a large modpack? This mod fixes that and saves you a massive amount of time on all your everyday vanilla crafts.
Installation
Install this mod only if you have a big modpack (like All The Mods 10, Enigmatica, FTB packs, etc).
1. Install NeoForge for Minecraft 1.21.1
2. Drop the .jar into your mods folder
3. FastWorkbench required alongside for maximum performance gains
4. Client-side (optional server install)
5. Launch the game
What it does
In modpacks containing hundreds of mods (like All The Mods 10, Enigmatica, FTB packs, etc.), the vanilla recipe book tries to load thousands of modded recipes, causing severe lag, stutters, and even crashes. The common fix — installing FastWorkbench — removes the recipe book entirely, which sacrifices convenience for players who still want quick access to vanilla recipes.
Vanilla Recipe Book brings the recipe book back, with a twist: it only displays base game recipes (the `minecraft:` namespace). No modded recipes, no lag.
> 💡 Huge time saver: no more opening JEI/REI just to look up a tiny vanilla recipe (sticks, slabs, ladders, glass panes, furnaces, barrels, etc.). One click from your inventory or crafting table and you're done. Across dozens of crafts per session, the difference is real.
Features
- ✅ Restores the recipe book in both the inventory (2x2) and the crafting table (3x3), even when FastWorkbench has hidden it
- ✅ Filters out all modded recipes — only vanilla Minecraft crafting recipes are shown
- ✅ All vanilla recipes unlocked by default — no need to grind unlock notifications to fill the book
- ✅ Massive time saver on all everyday vanilla crafts — no more JEI round-trips for a simple stick or slab
- ✅ Keeps "new recipe unlocked" toasts working — progression tracking stays intact
- ✅ Ghost recipe preview in the crafting grid for any vanilla recipe, even on multiplayer servers
- ✅ Smart auto-fill for recipes the player has actually unlocked server-side
- ✅ Client-side only — no server install required, works on any vanilla or modded server
- ✅ Zero conflict with FastWorkbench — both mods are designed to coexist
Compatibility
Minecraft version 1.21.1
Mod loader NeoForge
Multiplayer servers Fully supported (no server install needed)
Known limitations
- On multiplayer servers, recipes you haven't unlocked in-game will show a ghost preview when clicked, but cannot be auto-filled into the grid (the server controls that logic). Naturally-unlocked recipes work normally.
- This mod intentionally does not display modded recipes — that's the whole point. Use JEI/REI/EMI to look up modded recipes.
Why I built this
Large modpacks like ATM10 are amazing, but their recipe book is basically unusable. I wanted to keep the simple vanilla workflow — "open inventory → see the recipe → click" — for basic recipes (sticks, ladders, slabs, glass panes…) without giving up FastWorkbench's performance gains. The result: vanilla comfort restored, and a lot less time wasted digging through JEI menus for trivial crafts.
