Description
VanillaSkills
A server-side skill-tree & progression overhaul for Minecraft 26.2 (Fabric) — vanilla clients welcome.
Play this mod live! Join The Official Community server — running this and all our other custom mods. Vanilla clients welcome, no mods required:
JoBros.mcserver.us.
VanillaSkills runs entirely on the server. Players can join with a completely vanilla client and still get the full experience; install the optional resource pack (or the mod itself) to see the custom gear textures.
Features
- Per-player skill tree — a chest-GUI tree (
/skill) with 15 lanes: Vitality, Fleet Foot, Prospector, Fortune Finder, Warrior, Guardian, Reach, Mountaineer, Aquatic, Evasion, Cultivator, Brewmaster, Armorsmith, Toolsmith, and a Night Vision capstone. - Two currencies — earn Skill Shards from advancements (unfarmable, one-time) to buy skill lanes, and Quest Shards from the bounty board to spend in the Quest Shop or on the crafting ladders.
- Bounty board & Quest Shop — an optional floating notice board with rotating bounties; spend Quest Shards in a rotating shop or convert them into Skill Shards. Use /Quests if you do not place a board.
- Five gear tiers — Hardwood, Rose Gold, Steel, Crystalline, and Dragon — each with set bonuses, sitting between the vanilla tiers. Crafting each tier is gated behind the Armorsmith/Toolsmith ladders.
- Steel is forged in an anvil — drop a plain iron ingot in each input slot to forge a Steel Ingot.
- Ender Dragon material chain — Dragon Scales → Dragon Ingot → Dragon gear (smithing), plus an Elytra-into-Dragon-chestplate combine.
- Steel-Infused Shield, stacking/longer potions, craftable Fortune IV/V, optional Mending removal, and more.
Configuration (per-world, no cheats)
Settings live in each world save (<world>/vanillaskills/), so every world can have its own. Edit the JSON directly, or — with Mod Menu installed client-side — use the in-game config screen:
- Mending on/off
- Bounty-board & Quest Shop refresh intervals
- Quest → Skill Shard convert ratio
- Quests required to graduate to the main bounty board
- Skill-point earning rates (
points.json)
Client keybinds (optional)
Players who install the mod on their client get rebindable keys (Options → Controls → VanillaSkills) to open the Skill Tree (default ]) and Bounty Board (default [). Vanilla clients simply use the commands.
Requirements
- Minecraft 26.2, Fabric Loader ≥ 0.19.3
- Fabric API ≥ 0.152.1+26.2 (required)
- Optional: Mod Menu — for the in-game config screen
Textures
Custom textures are bundled in the mod jar — if you install the mod, you see the art automatically. For vanilla clients on a server, serve the separate VanillaSkills Texture Pack via server.properties (resource-pack= / require-resource-pack=true). Or the Texture pack linked below.
Commands
/skill (open the tree), /skill guide, /quests (or /bounty), plus op tools: /skill layout (rearrange lanes), /skill editor (edit nodes), /skill reload, /skill regen [fresh], /quests board, and more (/help admin).
