Description
"That thing… isn't a mountain.."
Venominus's Bloodbath is a horror mod based on the Bloodbath from the analog horror series created by Apricotal Animations.
Recommendations for the Best Experience
⚠️ Most Important Recommendation
-
If you are playing in an advanced world or a world you have already played for a while, I strongly recommend using
/time set dayto reset the world directly back to Day 0 before playing.
Why?
The mod's spawn system is designed around Minecraft days 0–35. During these first days, Bloodbath encounters are more carefully organized to provide a better progression and experience.
If your world is already past day 35, there is no need to restart the world. Bloodbath will still spawn normally, but the organized progression from the earlier days will have already been skipped. After day 35, the mod switches to a more natural spawn system.
🎥 Recommended Settings
-
Increase your render distance.
A render distance between 24–32 chunks is strongly recommended. Seeing Bloodbath from far away can make encounters much more intense. -
Use shaders if your PC can handle them.
Shaders can greatly improve the atmosphere and make Bloodbath look even more impressive.
🩸 Gameplay Recommendations
-
Play for around 30–35 Minecraft days for the intended experience and progression.
-
Stay in mountainous or relatively open areas.
Bloodbath encounters are easier to experience in these environments. The mountains do not need to be enormous — normal-sized mountains are enough. -
Avoid spending most of your time underground.
Bloodbath does not spawn inside caves, so staying underground for long periods can significantly reduce your chances of encountering it.
About the Bloodbath
The Bloodbath is, for the most part, a giant animated Billboard.
A Billboard is basically an image that always faces the player's camera, creating the appearance of an enormous creature without using a traditional 3D model.
And the Bloodbath has different behaviors, each designed to create a different type of encounter.
Spawn
The spawn system is based on the number of in-game days played.
Before day 35, the Bloodbath can appear through the mod's spawn system.
Starting from day 35, its spawn becomes natural.
Configurations
For now, the mod only has one configuration:
Spawn Distance
- Minimum distance: 7 chunks / 112 blocks
- Maximum distance: 32 chunks / 512 blocks

How The Mod Works (outdated)
Behaviors
The Bloodbath has 4 different behaviors, each represented by a different entity.
Hider Mode — Spike_Hider
The Spike Hider can appear behind mountains or in deep oceans.
It moves through the terrain while only showing its dorsal spikes. It then sinks down, raises its tail up to the clouds, and despawns shortly afterward.
When it spawns, it plays a cracking/earthquake sound and causes a screen shake.
The Spike Hider is not a complete representation of the Bloodbath. Like the other Bloodbath entities, it uses a 2D Billboard that always faces the player's camera. When the tail is shown, the rest of the image disappears as part of the animation, creating the illusion that the Bloodbath is sinking and raising its tail.
Stalker Mode — Full_Body_Stalker
The Full Body Stalker spawns standing completely still.
When the player looks at it for the first time, detected using the player's FOV, its encounter begins.
It starts playing "C2 Misplaced in Time" by The Caretaker and activates the staring event.
During the event, the screen becomes red and the player begins taking damage. The event can eventually kill the player if they continue looking at it.
If the player looks away or hides behind a block so the Bloodbath cannot be seen for long enough, there is a 10% chance that it will remain and a 90% chance that it will despawn.
Getting close to the Full Body Stalker causes Blindness and Slowness, with a chance of applying the Radiation effect.
Easter Egg: In Creative or Spectator mode, getting close to it can make the Bloodbath say several different phrases.
Mountain Chase — Mountain_Bloodbath
The Mountain Bloodbath spawns behind mountains, disguising itself as part of the terrain while only its dorsal spikes are visible.
If the player looks at it for 5 seconds, or if it remains hidden from the player for more than 1 minute, it rises from the mountain and starts chasing the player.
While hidden, it can make sounds to attract the player's attention.
Once it starts chasing, its speed depends on its distance from the player:
- Far away: Extremely fast.
- Closer: Slower.
- Very close: Approximately the speed of a walking player.
The Mountain Bloodbath has a very large damage area, approximately 30 blocks wide and 280 blocks tall.
It can break blocks when necessary, allowing it to destroy obstacles such as trees or blocks that are trapping it. It can also jump up to approximately 30 blocks high and uses pathfinding to navigate toward the player.
If the player tries to hide underground, it can break blocks to reach them.
Its movement also causes screen shake.
Chase Mode — The_Bloodbath
The Bloodbath spawns behind the player, looks directly at them, and temporarily locks the player's camera.
Its chase system works similarly to the Mountain Bloodbath, but it is faster.
Its footsteps produce stronger screen shake, and its roars also cause screen shake. Its roars have a slightly higher pitch compared to the Mountain Bloodbath.
Its walking animation is based on the Bloodbath shaking while moving.
It also has several special behaviors, including moments where it suddenly stops before continuing the chase, as well as a fake despawn designed to make the player think it has disappeared.
Spawn System
The Bloodbath's early-game spawning is controlled by spawn windows.
Each window covers a specific range of in-game days. When a new window begins, the mod randomly determines how many opportunities each Bloodbath behavior will receive.
It then randomly chooses the days on which those opportunities will occur.
When an opportunity's day arrives, the mod starts a random 2–8 minute cooldown. Once the cooldown finishes, the mod repeatedly attempts to find a valid spawn location until the end of that in-game day.
If it cannot spawn before the day ends, the opportunity is normally lost.
The Mountain Bloodbath and The Bloodbath are exceptions — their missed opportunities can be rescheduled for the following day.
Only one Bloodbath entity can exist at a time.
Window 1 — Days 3–9
- Spike Hider
Window 2 — Days 10–20
- Spike Hider
- Full Body Stalker
Window 3 — Days 21–27
- Spike Hider
- Full Body Stalker
- Mountain Bloodbath
Window 4 — Days 28–34
- Spike Hider
- The Bloodbath
Day 35+
The scheduled spawn system ends and natural spawning becomes active.
Radiation
The Radiation effect causes an initial random amount of damage.
Afterward, it can create a fake HUD, making the player's displayed health and hunger unreliable.
For example, the player may have full health while the HUD shows only half a heart.
After several minutes, the displayed values are randomized again.
Other Information
All Bloodbath entities are extremely large, with most being over 280 blocks tall.
The minimum and maximum spawn distance can be changed in the mod's configuration.
By default, the spawn distance ranges from 112 to 512 blocks from the player.
