About

Description

Automatically generates distant terrain LODs (Levels of Detail) for Voxy without requiring you to fly through every chunk.

Voxy renders your world far beyond the normal render distance, but by default it can only build that distant view AFTER a player physically visits each chunk. This mod fixes that: it hooks into server-loaded chunks (including those loaded by Chunky or any other chunk pregenerator) and generates the LOD data in the background automatically — no player movement needed.

Works on singleplayer worlds and dedicated servers. On a server, every connected client benefits from the pregeneration — players see the distant terrain the moment they join, even for areas they have never visited.

WARNING: EARLY ALPHA — expect bugs. Singleplayer works great. Dedicated server support is functional but still has known issues — use with caution.

THIS MOD IS NOT VOXY. You must install the Voxy fork separately. Built for NeoForge 1.21.1 with the unofficial Voxy port by j-shelfwood.

=== REQUIREMENTS ===

  1. NeoForge 1.21.1 https://neoforged.net/

  2. Voxy (unofficial NeoForge 1.21.1 port by j-shelfwood) [REQUIRED on CLIENT only] Build from source: https://github.com/j-shelfwood/voxy-neoforge Place the resulting voxy-*.jar in your CLIENT mods/ folder. Voxy is NOT required on a dedicated server.

  3. Sodium 0.6.13+ for NeoForge [REQUIRED by Voxy, CLIENT only] https://modrinth.com/mod/sodium

  4. Chunky for NeoForge [OPTIONAL - recommended] Pregenerates chunks so LODs are built before anyone visits the area. https://modrinth.com/plugin/chunky

=== SETUP ===

  1. Install NeoForge 1.21.1 on client (and server if multiplayer).
  2. Clone and build: https://github.com/j-shelfwood/voxy-neoforge
  3. Place voxy-.jar, sodium-.jar, chunky-*.jar, and this JAR in mods/.
  4. Launch. This mod activates automatically — no configuration needed.
  5. Optional: run /chunky radius 1000 then /chunky start to pregenerate. LODs will build in the background as chunks are loaded. No flying needed.
