Description
Vulkairis
Bringing Iris shader-pack compatibility to VulkanMod.
Vulkairis is an experimental compatibility bridge designed to bring Iris shader-pack support to Minecraft running with VulkanMod.
Minecraft's traditional rendering pipeline and Iris rely on OpenGL, while VulkanMod replaces the OpenGL rendering backend with Vulkan. Because Iris shaders are designed for a different graphics API, they cannot run through VulkanMod's Vulkan pipeline without an additional compatibility layer.
Vulkairis aims to bridge that gap. It translates GLSL shader code into SPIR-V and routes the resulting shaders into VulkanMod's rendering pipeline, with the goal of allowing compatible Iris shader packs to run through Vulkan rather than OpenGL.
The project is still in its early stages, and its shader translation and rendering integration are actively being developed.
⚠️ Experimental Alpha — Read Before Installing
Vulkairis is currently in alpha. Its GLSL-to-SPIR-V translation pipeline is still being tested and refined, and several important rendering components are not yet fully integrated.
Current limitations include:
- Shadow passes: Not yet fully integrated.
- Composite passes: Not yet fully integrated.
- Fallback handling: Still under development.
Depending on your setup and shader pack, you may encounter rendering errors, crashes, or startup failures. Shader compatibility and stability are not guaranteed.
This mod is intended for testing and development, not stable gameplay. Back up your Minecraft instance before installing it.
Reporting Issues
Please report bugs related to Vulkairis through this project's issue tracker rather than the official Iris or VulkanMod issue trackers.
When reporting a problem, include your Minecraft version, installed mod versions, shader pack name, relevant logs, a lable to the issue and steps to reproduce the issue. This information helps identify the source of the problem and makes debugging easier.

Requirements
Vulkairis requires the following software and mod versions:
- Minecraft: 1.21.1
- Fabric: 19.5
- Iris:
iris-fabric-1.8.14-beta.1+mc1.21.1 - VulkanMod:
VulkanMod-0.6.7+1.21.1
For the intended test configuration, use the versions listed above. Compatibility with other versions has not been established.
Tested Hardware
Initial testing was performed on the following system:
- Processor: Intel Core i3-1115G4
- Graphics: Intel UHD Graphics
- Memory: 16 GB RAM (2133 MT/s)
Performance, stability, and shader compatibility may vary depending on your hardware, drivers, shader pack, and mod configuration.
Development Status
Vulkairis is an ongoing effort to connect Iris shader-pack functionality with VulkanMod's rendering backend. The current priority is improving shader translation, integrating the remaining rendering passes, and making the bridge more reliable.
Expect limitations as development continues. Feedback, reproducible bug reports, and testing across different hardware configurations are valuable contributions to the project.
Thank you for testing Vulkairis and supporting its development!
