Description
VulkanMod / Create Fly Compat
Fixes the black-screen conflict between **VulkanMod** and **Create Fly** by
disabling Flywheel's OpenGL-based GPU-instancing renderer when VulkanMod
has replaced Minecraft's rendering backend, and patching a hard-coded
OpenGL cast in Create Fly's resource-reload code that crashes under any
non-OpenGL backend.
This is an unofficial, third-party compatibility patch. It is **not**
affiliated with or endorsed by the VulkanMod or Create Fly teams.
What it actually does
Create Fly bundles its own copy of Flywheel, Create's GPU-instancing
render engine, which talks to the GPU with raw OpenGL calls. VulkanMod
replaces Minecraft's OpenGL backend with Vulkan, but keeps a partial
OpenGL compatibility shim alive for other mods — enough to fool
Flywheel's "is a real OpenGL context available" check into saying yes,
even though it isn't backed by a complete implementation. That produces
a black screen on startup.
This mod:
- Forces Flywheel's `instancing`/`indirect` GPU backends off when
VulkanMod is detected, so Create falls back to its already-supported
non-instanced rendering path (the same fallback it uses when a shader
pack like Iris is active).
- Skips a resource-reload step (blue-noise texture setup) that
unconditionally hard-casts to OpenGL-specific classes regardless of
which backend is active, which otherwise crashes every resource
reload under VulkanMod.
What you gain / what you trade off
- **Fixes:** the black screen; Create Fly loads and plays normally
alongside VulkanMod.
- **Trade-off:** Create's kinetic blocks and contraptions render without
Flywheel's GPU instancing under VulkanMod — visually and
performance-wise closer to running Create with a shader pack enabled
than stock Create Fly. This is a correctness fix, not a performance
optimization.
## Requirements
- Minecraft 26.1.2
- Fabric Loader
- Java 25
- [VulkanMod](https://modrinth.com/mod/vulkanmod) 0.6.8+26.1.2
- [Create Fly](https://modrinth.com/mod/create-fly) 26.1.2-6.0.9-4
Built and tested against the exact versions above. Create Fly is under
active development without version tags, so its internals can shift
between builds — if you're on a different Create Fly build and see the
original black screen return, please open an issue with your
`latest.log`
Installation
Drop the jar in your `mods` folder alongside VulkanMod and Create Fly.
