Description

What is Warspire Knowledge?

Warspire Knowledge is a technology locking and progression mod originally developed for the Warspire modpack.

Large technology modpacks normally have one major problem: once a mod is installed, almost everything inside it becomes available as soon as the player obtains the required materials.

Warspire Knowledge changes that.

Technology can require actual knowledge before it can be used.

Finding an item, viewing its recipe or even obtaining a machine does not necessarily mean the player has learned how to use that technology.

Progression is divided into individual Knowledge Groups, representing specific stages of technological development.

These groups can be unlocked through:

  • FTB Quests progression
  • Knowledge Blueprints
  • Previous knowledge requirements
  • Team progression
  • Modpack-defined milestones

This allows a modpack to create a real progression tree across many different technology mods instead of relying entirely on recipes or quest-book instructions.

Technology Locking

Warspire Knowledge can prevent access to technology until the corresponding Knowledge Group has been unlocked.

Depending on the configured technology, the system can restrict:

  • Item usage
  • Block placement
  • Block interaction
  • Entity interaction
  • Entity attacks
  • Item-use actions
  • Crafting results
  • Technology-specific interactions

Locked technology can remain visible.

Players can therefore discover future machines, recipes and systems without immediately being able to use them.

The result is a progression system where technological advancement must actually be earned.

Anti-Bypass Protection

The locking system is validated server-side and includes protections against several common progression bypasses.

Warspire Knowledge handles situations including:

  • Normal block placement
  • BlockItems
  • Modded placement paths
  • Block interactions
  • Item interactions
  • Crafting results
  • Client/server synchronization
  • Automation
  • FakePlayer interactions where appropriate

Locked BlockItems are checked before placement whenever possible so the item is not consumed before the action is rejected.

Additional fallback protection exists for unusual placement methods used by other mods.

The system also includes protection against client-side ghost blocks after rejected placement attempts.

Knowledge Blueprints

Technology is unlocked using the dedicated Knowledge Blueprint system.

The central Blueprint item is:

warspireknowledge:knowledge_blueprint

A Blueprint represents technological understanding rather than a normal crafting ingredient.

Blueprints can be distributed through quests and tied to previous progression requirements.

This allows a modpack to create progression such as:

Mechanical Engineering
→ Processing
→ Automation
→ Electricity
→ Industrial Machinery
→ Logistics
→ Digital Networks
→ Nuclear Technology
→ Aviation
→ Rocket Engineering
→ Interplanetary Technology

without completely rewriting every recipe involved.

FTB Quests Integration

Warspire Knowledge is deeply integrated with FTB Quests.

Knowledge Blueprints can be awarded at specific points in a quest tree, connecting technological unlocks directly to actual progression.

This allows quests involving:

  • Crafting
  • Exploration
  • Factory construction
  • Resource processing
  • Automation
  • Infrastructure
  • Combat
  • Space exploration

to unlock new technological capabilities.

The quest book therefore does more than simply tell the player what to do.

It can directly control what technology becomes available next.

FTB Teams Integration

Knowledge progression is shared through FTB Teams.

Players belonging to the same team share their technological research.

A multiplayer group can therefore develop its technology together instead of forcing every member to individually repeat every unlock.

At the same time:

  • Separate teams remain independent
  • One team cannot unlock technology for another
  • New unlocks synchronize between team members
  • Creative-mode bypass is supported
  • Supported FakePlayer and automation behavior is handled separately
  • Administrators can grant or remove knowledge when necessary

This makes the system suitable for both cooperative survival and multiplayer servers with several independent teams.

Visual Feedback

Locked technology should never feel like an unexplained failure.

Warspire Knowledge provides dedicated visual and audio feedback when access is denied or research is completed.

The system includes:

  • Custom technology-lock HUD
  • Research status feedback
  • Locked-slot overlays
  • Hotbar lock indicators
  • Inventory indicators
  • Animated lock effects
  • Blueprint feedback
  • Research unlock animations
  • Dedicated access-denied sounds
  • Blueprint failure feedback
  • Research unlock sounds

Unlocking an important technology is presented as an actual progression milestone rather than a silent internal flag.

Mods Currently Covered by Warspire Knowledge

The current Warspire configuration contains:

42 Knowledge Groups

distributed across:

14 technology mods

The current technology locking system covers content from:

  • Create
  • Create Crafts & Additions
  • Create Nuclear
  • Mekanism
  • Ender IO
  • Applied Energistics 2
  • Create: Northstar - Redux
  • Storage Drawers
  • Sophisticated Backpacks
  • Colossal Chests
  • Ender Storage
  • SecurityCraft
  • Cyclic
  • Immersive Aircraft

Each mod is divided into one or more Knowledge Groups instead of being unlocked all at once.

Knowledge Groups by Mod

Create — 7 Groups

Create forms the foundation of Warspire's mechanical and industrial progression.

7 Knowledge Groups

  • Create Foundations
  • Create Processing
  • Brass Automation
  • Mobile Contraptions
  • Excavation
  • Create Control
  • Precision Transport

Create Crafts & Additions — 2 Groups

This branch connects Create's rotational machinery to electrical generation and electric motors.

2 Knowledge Groups

  • Electromechanical Generation
  • Electromechanical Motion

Create Nuclear — 1 Group

Nuclear technology is treated as a dedicated high-level industrial milestone.

1 Knowledge Group

  • Nuclear Engineering

Designed for Modpacks

Although Warspire Knowledge was originally created for Warspire, its core concept solves a problem common to large progression-focused modpacks:

Different technology mods normally have no knowledge of each other's progression.

Warspire Knowledge provides a common progression layer above them.

This makes it possible to transform many independent technology mods into a single connected progression system.

Instead of:

Mod A
Mod B
Mod C
Mod D

all being independently available, a modpack can build:

Mechanical Technology
→ Industrial Processing
→ Electricity
→ Logistics
→ Digital Automation
→ Nuclear Technology
→ Aviation
→ Spaceflight

The actual technology mods can remain intact while Warspire Knowledge controls when their capabilities become available.
