About
Description
Winter Ambience is a client-side visual mod that gives your world a winter look, including support for many modded trees and plants. Exposed terrain and rooftops get a layer of snow, deciduous trees show bare branches, and evergreens keep their needles with a dusting of snow. Rain appears as snowfall, and thunderstorms can become windblown blizzards. These effects are rendered on the client, so the world’s blocks, biomes, and weather data stay intact.
This mod works very well in tandem with Autumn Foliage!
Features
- Snow-covered terrain, rooftops, stairs, and slabs, with uneven snow along exposed edges
- Bare deciduous branches, snow-dusted evergreens, and muted winter colors for other vegetation
- Frosted windows and varied clusters of 3D icicles
- Snowfall, blizzards, and drifts that build during storms and fade afterward
- Configurable altitude snowlines that rise during thaw and drop after storms
- Visible breath, cold haze, wind, crunching footsteps, and quieter outdoor ambience
- Multiple coordinate-based winter regions with smooth fades
- Optional calendar timing and bare-tree transitions between seasons
- In-game configuration and optional Distant Horizons support
Regions & Tropical Vegetation
By default, winter applies across the Overworld. You can define one or more winter ranges along the X or Z axis and give each range its own fade distance. For example, you can keep your northern mountains snowy while leaving southern lowlands green.
Enable Stick Season to add a snowless stretch of bare woodland between snowy and green areas. It also works with calendar fades. With matching calendars, Autumn Foliage and compatible Spring Foliage builds can transition into and out of winter through those bare-tree periods.
Tropical and jungle vegetation can stay green while the rest of your world turns wintry. Use the Winter Tropics setting to choose whether winter affects those areas.
Distant Horizons
Optional Distant Horizons integration applies winter colors to distant terrain and vegetation. Detailed effects such as bare branch models, snow along block edges, and icicles render in normal chunks.
Configuration
Open Mods → Winter Ambience → Config.
Use the main screen for regions, calendar timing, and vegetation settings. Open Snow & Ambience to adjust snow coverage, altitude, weather, particles, and sound.
Compatibility
Winter Ambience uses Minecraft block tags and vegetation detection to support many modded plants. For unusual blocks or plants, use the manual include and exclude lists in the advanced settings.
