Wondrous Wands
Wondrous Wands is a survival-focused magic mod for Minecraft Forge 1.20.1. It adds 55 progression-linked wands across eight schools of magic, each with its own design, abilities, charged cast, alternate cast, and passive trait.
Rather than functioning as simple right-click tools, wands grow alongside the player through mastery, attunement, crafting upgrades, magical exploration, and endgame encounters.
Eight Schools of Magic
- Arcane — force, teleportation, wards, duplication, and magical missiles
- Flame — firebolts, combustion, meteors, flame walls, and infernos
- Frost — freezing, ice walls, blizzards, chains, and mirror magic
- Storm — lightning, cyclones, storm clouds, chain attacks, and aerial movement
- Nature — healing, roots, thorns, spores, growth, and terrain manipulation
- Conjuring — spectral weapons, dimensional anchors, and realm travel
- Necromancy — soul magic, curses, life drain, gravebound servants, and skeletal armies
- Celestial — gravity, moonlight, comets, astral shields, and starfall
Every wand has:
- A primary cast
- A sneak-cast alternate ability
- A charged ability
- A passive held trait
- A unique custom texture and visual identity
Aether and Casting
Spells consume Aether, displayed through a compact mystical HUD in the bottom-left corner.
Aether regenerates naturally after a short recovery period. Repeating the same spell too frequently generates Arcane Strain, increasing its cost and encouraging players to vary their casting.
Targeted spells only consume Aether when a valid target is available.
Wand Mastery
Every wand tracks its own experience and progresses through five mastery ranks:
- Unfamiliar
- Practiced
- Attuned
- Mastered
- Wondrous
Continued use improves your connection to the wand, while school-wide attunement gradually reduces the cost of matching spells.
Visible and Animated Magic
Wondrous Wands includes custom spell visuals rather than relying entirely on particles.
Features include:
- Visible projectiles traveling from wand to target
- Animated thorn waves
- Meteors and magical barrages
- Moving storms and cyclones
- Temporary walls, rings, fields, and domes
- Orbiting spectral weapons
- School-specific projectile appearances
- Custom 32×32 wand artwork
Magical Exploration
Newly generated Overworld terrain can contain ten rare magical locations:
- Abandoned Wandmaker’s Cottage
- Ruined Academy
- Conjurer’s Menagerie
- Ossuary Crypt
- Stormwatch Tower
- Frozen Observatory
- Druid Sanctuary
- Fallen-Star Crater
- Wandering Magic Camp
- Thaumaturgical Library
These sites are intentionally rare and contain magical loot, lore, crafting materials, or unusual encounters.
Wondrous Realms
The Wand of the Threshold can open crossings into five magical dimensions:
- Endless Ossuary
- Conjurer’s Expanse
- Ember Court
- Frozen Silence
- Astral Sea
Each realm has its own atmosphere, environmental effects, and guardian encounter.
Bosses and Rituals
Special items can be used at the Wandwright’s Table to begin major encounters:
- Echo Shard — awakens the Unbound Apprentice
- Lightning Rod — summons the Tempest Sovereign
- Nether Star — challenges the First Wandwright
Defeating magical enemies provides materials needed for advanced and legendary wand progression.
Necromancy and Commands
Necromancy wands can raise and command gravebound servants. The improved Bound Blade also responds to the summon command system.
