Worldsinger is a content mod for Minecraft that brings the worlds of the Cosmere, Brandon Sanderson's fantasy universe, to Minecraft.

Download the mod here, then start your adventures in the Cosmere!

Sail the Spore Seas!

The first release of this mod introduces Lumar as seen in the novel Tress of the Emerald Sea by Brandon Sanderson! A vibrant archipelago with oceans made of colorful alien spores instead of water, Lumar is one of the most beautiful and dangerous planets in the Cosmere.

A showcase of the different items and blocks introduced by Worldsinger on Lumar

Features

  • A standalone dimension with its own blocks, biomes, magic, and even weather patterns
  • 6 aether spores each with their own mechanics and behaviors
  • A new spore crafting and brewing systems to experiment with
  • 79 new blocks and 49 new items

Fully Systemic

  • Spores react to any contact with water, including water blocks, snowballs, and even the eyes of living entities (like players)!
  • The spore oceans are fluidized by vent blocks from below, which means removing those vents will turn the spores solid!
  • The vent blocks can freeze at any time to create random stillings during which the ocean turns into a temporary desert of spores. Beware kicking up too many spore particles!
  • Ribbons of water known as rainlines roam across the world in predicaable, consistent routes (except in the Crimson Sea) which can be tracked on a map.

Experiment with Spores

  • Each of the 6 spores grow in unique ways when water is applied to them:
    • Verdant spores grow into twisting green vines.
    • Zephyr spores explode into bursts of breathable air.
    • Crimson spores manifest as razor-sharp red spikes.
    • Roseite spores transform into reddish-pink translucent crystal.
    • Sunlight spores emit light and heat.
    • Midnight spores create a mysterious Midnight Essence.
    • Both spores and their growths can be harvested for useful materials, each interacting with Minecraft's existing systems in a variety of ways.
    • Metals like steel, iron, silver, and aluminum can be used to dynamically manipulate how spores grow.
    • A spore brewing system provides alternative potion brewing using spore particles.
    • A cannonball crafting system allows you to design your own throwable spore devices and customize both fuse and effects.

Deadly Yet Survivable

  • Every action you take has a chance to kick up deadly spores. One mistake can mean instant death.
  • However, with the right mixture of preparation and caution, you can learn to survive and thrive on Lumar.
  • Use blocks of salt and silver to turn nearby spores into a harmless gray.
  • Outfit your boats and axes with silver to traverse the seas safely.

Strangely Alien

  • Experience a unique survival challenge unlike anything vanilla Minecraft has to offer.
  • Learn new strategies for surviving the dangers of Lumar.
  • An alternate start where stone and metal are plentiful, but wood and water are scarce and valuable.
  • Explore a colorful and bizarre world where oceans are deadly and giant moons hang motionless over the sky.

FAQ

Is the mod bug-free, polished, and optimized?

Absolutely not. This mod pushes the technical limits of Minecraft in many areas and I've only had limited playtesting, so I cannot promise how well it'll run on your machine. If you run into any issues, please report a bug here and I'll see what I can do!

Is the mod multiplayer-friendly?

Yes! Every aspect of the mod is designed to work in both singleplayer and multiplayer. See the wiki for instructions on how to set up a server that starts on Lumar.

Will this ever be compatible with other Cosmere mods?

Those other Cosmere mods are awesome! However, seeing as most of them are currently use Forge, they unfortunately will not be compatible with my mod. I don't currently intend to collaborate with other Cosmere-related mods, as I enjoy the opportunity to provide my personal spin on translating the Cosmere to Minecraft.

Are you going to add anything more to Lumar?

To address the large moon in the sky: large buildable ships would be awesome to have in this mod, but that's currently way outside of my technical abilities. Maybe if a good mod for it exists for Fabric, I'll see about adding compatibility!

There's always more I want to work on to make Lumar feel even more unique and immersive, especially new mobs (seagulls, rats, pigeons, and Midnight Serpents)! And there's always other worlds to think about too...

Are you going to add other Cosmere planets and magic systems?

I'd love to if I had the time! This release alone took more than 600 hours of dev work between design, coding, and art. I'm a solo developer who works on this as a hobby, so I cannot promise any timeline to update the mod outside of critical bugfixes.

I also am a little burnt out after working on this mod for nearly a year and a half, and I'd like to take a break to work on some other stuff! However, I will always have ideas, and I'm sure I'll return to this project sooner than later.

Why are there vanilla hostile mobs and Redstone on Lumar, which aren't in the books?

I'm still exploring where the line is drawn between what belongs in vanilla Minecraft and what is part of the universal Minecraft experience. For example, redstone will likely always be used instead of a bespoke electricity system because they fulfill the same function. Plus, you can make cool spore machines with it!

In other cases like vanilla hostile mobs, I didn't have time this release to design custom hostile mobs. However, I still wanted to pose a challenge to the player beyond just environmental hazards. Notably, Creepers still do not spawn on Lumar, which means Zephyr continues to be the replacement for gunpowder on that world!

Is this compatible with my other mods?

It depends. I did my best to follow good conventions and enable compatibility where possible, but my mod is quite complex and technically invasive. I'm also not a very experienced modder, so there's a decent change some things may break.

I can't promise compatibility with every mod, but feel free to file an issue and I'll see what I can do!

Will you port this mod to Forge/Neoforge?

Nope. I have no desire to develop with Forge or use a multi-platform modding architecture, as I have a personal preference for developing in Fabric due to more modern tools.

When will you update the mod to the latest version?

My plan is to keep the mod up to date to the latest version of Minecraft possible. The initial release is a few versions behind to stabilize the build for launch, but I always prefer to have Minecraft's latest technical features. I do not intend to stay on this version going forward.

Will you backport the mod to an older version?

No. Due to personal time limitations, I only plan to support one version of Minecraft at a time. I will not be able to support multiple versions at once or backport the mod to an older version.

Why do I need to install all these libraries/dependencies?

Leveraging libraries and mods made by other people is one of the best parts of the modding community. Plenty of people have put in time and effort to make utilities and systems more robust than I could do alone, and provides me with critical time-savers instead of trying to reinvent the entire carriage myself.

That said, I understand that it can introduce delays when library mods that we depend on aren't yet updated. I'll be doing my best to minimize dependency mods where I can going forward, or at the very least make them optional.

Why did you name it Worldsinger?

As Worldsingers in the Cosmere share stories from other lands, this mod seeks to translate the worlds of the Cosmere to another medium. I wanted to avoid calling it the definitive "Cosmere Mod" since many other great Cosmere mods exist, and this is only my personal interpretation of that universe.
