# Hollow Gaze

*Something is watching you. At least you have a friend.*

Hollow Gaze is a psychological horror mod built around one number: your **paranoia**. It rises when you're in the dark, underground, out at night or in the Nether. The higher it climbs, the more wrong the world gets.

## Paranoia
Every player has a paranoia level from 0 to 1000, saved with your character.

- **Rises** in darkness, in caves, at night, in the Nether, and when the Watcher stares you down
- **Falls** in the light, with your friend nearby, when you sleep, and when you pat your friend's head

## Things that go wrong
The more paranoid you get, the worse it gets:

- Sounds from behind you that nobody made: doors, chests, glass breaking, steps
- Doors that open or close by themselves, never while you're looking at them
- Fake chat messages and "players" who aren't there
- Footsteps that follow you and get closer
- A pillar, scarecrow or sign you never built, placed where you weren't looking
- Torches going out, darkness creeping in, a heartbeat in your ears
- While you sleep, something may be standing at your window

## The Watcher
Tall, black, one eye. It only moves while you're **not** looking at it. Stare it down while you're calm and it leaves. When you're deep in paranoia it won't, and it keeps getting closer. If it reaches you, it hurts.

## The Onlookers
Silent black figures with white eyes. They stand far away, or outside your window, and just watch. They never attack. Look at one for a moment, then look away, and it's gone.

## Smiley, your friend
A black body, a white smile, no arms, and it never speaks. It follows you everywhere and brings you food when you're hungry. It lies down next to you when you sleep, and it calms you when you pat its head. If you lose it, it comes back.

## Badges
20 advancements track what you've seen, heard and survived.

## Good to know
- The blocks and doors the mod changes are real and stay in your world.
- Paranoia is per player, so multiplayer works. The mod must be installed on both the server and the clients.
- Ops can test everything with `/hollowgaze paranoia <0-1000>`, `watcher`, `friend`, `peeper`, `audience`, `plant`, `door` and `steps`.
