Description

Forward:

After hundreds of hours of work, I present "BagelQuest", a Modpack that I made because I wanted something other than what most other packs achieve. I wanted something that wasn't just a fresh coat of paint over a game that I had grown up playing. I wanted something new, something that would give me the same feeling of wonder as the old YogBox, or Tekkit packs did.

Now, I know that many other Modpacks boast of making the game feel like "New" or that they have cultivated something completely unique to the modding ecosystem; I am aware that I am doing the same. But I assure you that BagelQuest is indeed something different, because I made it out of frustration towards those kinds of Modpacks. I have encountered countless packs that only end up being a "sum-of-their-parts" kind of deal. After so many playthroughs of different packs, they start to feel the same, even if they have a different set of mods.

Now that my impromptu therapy session is out of the way, what, you might ask, is so special about this Modpack? Simple, I got my hands dirty. Very dirty.

This pack includes many mods that are popular, mods that you may have played through many times, but you have never played through them like this. I have gotten my grubby little hands all over the recipes and drops from these mods, and mixed them all up for your crafting pleasure. I have done this in such a way that one mod can and often will lead to another, and you will have to at least finish part of every major Tech, Magic, or Dimension mod included just to reach the end. I'm talking hundreds of recipes that have been altered so that, for example, even touch Ars Nouveau spell-crafting, you need to already have a good grasp on producing ink in Iron's Spellbooks, as well as being midway through Malum and Occultism.

This creates, in my opinion, the main selling point for this entire Modpack: A unified game that becomes more than just its parts, it becomes something completely unique.

I urge you to at the very least download this Modpack, and take a look at the tech tree; See if it is something that grabs your fancy. If you are anything like me, I bet it will.

Main Features:

Now that you have (hopefully) read my little love letter, lets get down to brass tacks.

The Progression in this pack is based around this game-play loop:

Discover->Craft->Defeat->Repeat

It's a simple loop that is not unique, but it works in many cases. You will begin exploring the Overworld, crafting whatever you like, and then you will hit a wall. This wall is almost always a Boss of some kind. Defeat the boss, unlock a new tier of play, then repeat in, say, the Twilight Forest.

The Dimensional Progression is laid out as such:

Overworld->Twilight Forest->Nether->Aether->The End

While following this progression, you will be interacting with many big-name mods that have been altered to suit this progression. Usually requiring items specific to each dimension, as well as items from other mods, to progress.

Want to play with friends? I heavily reccomend E4MC!

Pack Completeness:

Having BagelQuest in a mostly finished state before releasing it was very important to me. I would consider this pack about 90% finished, barring any polish issues found while playtesting. The progression flow is completely done. Most of the recipes will never be touched again. I am, however, considering this release a Beta for now, as it will require some playtesting and balance fixes until I am satisfied. I am very happy with the current state of the pack, and hope that you lovely people out there will enjoy testing it out with me.

If you find any bugs while playing, feel free to post them here. I would very much appreciate if you did a little troubleshooting yourself first to at least know if it is the pack itself creating bugs if you do decide to leave a bug report. I am planning on getting a Github set up in the future to better track such things, but comments will do for now.

I am also very open to suggestions. It was brain melting to put it lightly to create this Modpack, and I am very aware it is nowhere near perfect. Please let me know if you have any good ideas, and you might see it added to the pack!

Anyways, that's all the words I have for this, and I'm guessing that you are pretty interested if you got all the way down here. Do yourself a favor and give this little diamond in the rough a shot!
