About

Description

Modern Minecraft redesigned with the aim of capturing the magic of the Beta experience, both visually and in gameplay. Heavily inspired by Better Than Adventure.

The key design philosophy was to create cohesion between features by aggressively tweaking, removing, and occasionally adding blocks/items/features. The advancement guide aims to walk the player through each and every aspect of gameplay, particularly important given the major changes to progression. This modpack is certainly more difficult than vanilla, but is designed to make every step forward in your journey feel like a leap, and emphasize the parts of Minecraft that are the most fun.

A typical landscape in the modpack.

Key Features:

  • Custom resourcepack in the style of Programmer Art!
    • An upgraded classic feel with 1000+ custom textures.
    • Redesigned progression!
      • Full advancement guide, explaining nearly every block, item, and feature in the game.
      • 800+ custom recipes.
    • Tools and items rebalanced to give everything its own function:
      • Mine with wooden tools to get copper, then smelt it in a kiln.
      • Make Weak torches, campfires, and lanterns with coal for an early light source.
      • Leather armor now lasts significantly longer, and boots grant you feather falling.
      • Chainmail armor innately provides thorns.
      • Mine with Copper Tools to get iron, then smelt it in a furnace crafted with deepslate.
      • Iron Tools have innate fortune, while armor has blast protection.
      • Gold Tools have innate silk touch, while armor has fire protection.
      • Diamond Tools are the fastest in the game.
      • Steel Tools, acquired in The Nether from Steel Ore, have innate fortune but last longer than iron.
      • Mine Blazing Netherrack for Blaze Powder which can be crafted into a block as fuel or used to craft improved torches, campfires, and lanterns.
      • Get Crystal Armor by defeating the End Dragon.
    • Reworked workstations!:
      • Kiln: Smelt copper, glass, hardened clay, and crack bricks.
      • Oven: Cook food. It's what it's for, after all.
      • Furnace: Smelt ores and smooth block variants.
      • Crucible: Extract minerals from blocks and items, and char blocks.
      • Crusher: Crush cobblestone to gravel to sand, bones into meal, and flowers into dye.
      • Armor Bench: Upgrade leather armor into higher tiers with special materials.
    • Classic+ hunger system!
      • Heal directly, over time.
      • Reworked hunger items, incentivising crafting foods together to get the best results.
    • Better storage:
      • Bundles!
      • Barrels have double capacity!
      • Trunks can be crafted from Zombie Piglin leather for portable chests.
    • Truly consistent, expanded, and diverse block palettes:
      • A regular and/or cobbled, polished, brick, cracked brick, mossy brick, chiseled, and pillar variant for stone, granite, slate, limestone, deepslate, clay, sandstone, red sandstone, basalt, quartz, netherrack, charred netherrack, and black netherrack.
      • A slab, vertical slab, stairs, and wall for every regular, cobbled, polished, brick, and mossy brick variant.
    • Wood you believe it?!
      • Wood planks replaced with colored variants for every color, which can be inter-dyed.
      • Swamp (Green), Azalea (Purple), and Hemlock (Blue) trees offer new opportunities, each with a full wood pallette.
      • Apple trees!
      • Directional wooden planks.
      • Seamless stripped logs.
      • Wooden walls for every tree type.
      • Giant mushrooms get a completely new look, with the nether variants (Nether and Glowing mushrooms) better matching with their overworld counterparts.
    • Get around differently:
      • Sprinting is removed to incentivise thinking about movement and boost other methods.
      • Paths and other similar blocks give a massive speed boost if you construct roads.
      • Rafts are cheap, but boats require iron, and only boats can carry chests.
      • Minecart networks are cheaper, and now have self-powered rails.
      • Pigs can move faster with a significantly expanded carrot-on-a-stick durability and armor.
      • The Nether is 1:1, can only be accessed via ruined portals, and ice boats are removed.
    • Removed enchantment and experience system.
      • Regular tools and armor now last significantly longer.
      • Innate enchantments for almost every tool and armor.

Important Notes

  • This pack is only available in English (EN_US). It does not add any custom items, it instead uses datapacks, custom textures, and custom display names to modify vanilla content.
  • Similarly, any resource packs on top of this will almost certainly lead to inconsistencies.
  • Due to the extensive nature of the changes and early stage of this pack, there are probably a lot of issues & bugs. If you find any, please email me at [email protected].

Credits

This pack wouldn't exist without the work of the Better Than Adventure team, but also big props to them for letting me use a few of their textures. Additionally, a few of my custom textures were based on both Programmer Art Continuation Project and Programmer Art Ultimate, both of which are included in this pack. The mod Maple Tree, which is released under MIT License, is also included in this pack, although all of the textures are replaced.
