Description
“The forest does not hate you. It simply doesn’t know you exist… until it does.”
Welcome to Call of Vibethulu, a cinematic horror-survival experience built around atmosphere, isolation, and the fear of the unknown. This is not a modpack about fighting endless waves of monsters or rushing through progression. Instead, it is a world that feels ancient, indifferent, and alive—a place where every journey beyond the warmth of your cabin is a gamble.
The world has been swallowed by an endless winter. Snow falls without pause, thick clouds smother the sky, and the sun rarely breaks through the perpetual overcast. Dense pine forests stretch for thousands of blocks, swallowing roads, landmarks, and even the horizon itself. Heavy fog hangs between the trees, reducing visibility until the forest becomes an endless maze of dark trunks and shifting shadows. Every expedition feels like stepping into a place where humanity was never meant to survive.
Your greatest enemy is not a monster—it’s the environment. The cold is relentless. Staying warm requires preparation, planning, and a constantly burning fire. A neglected fireplace can mean freezing temperatures creeping into your shelter, while venturing too far without supplies may leave you stranded in a blizzard with no way back. Food must be grown, hunted, gathered, or carefully prepared. Herbs become medicine, gardens become lifelines, and every successful harvest feels like a small victory against an uncaring world.
When night falls, the forest changes.
Most nights, nothing happens.
And that’s exactly what makes it terrifying.
You’ll hear distant footsteps in the snow, branches snapping where nothing should be walking, strange knocking echoing from the darkness, or fleeting silhouettes disappearing between the trees the moment you focus on them. Sometimes you’ll swear someone—or something—is watching from beyond the fog. Other times you’ll find evidence that you were never alone at all.
The horrors of Call of Vibethulu are not designed to constantly attack you. They stalk. They observe. They wait. They allow doubt to grow in your mind until you begin questioning every sound, every shadow, and every movement in the distance. Encounters are intentionally rare, making every appearance unforgettable.
Somewhere beyond the tree line wander beings so enormous that they disappear into the fog itself. Towering eldritch giants roam silently through the endless wilderness, indifferent to your existence. Most of the time they continue on their ancient paths without acknowledging you. They are not hunting you. They are not protecting the forest. They simply exist.
Until they notice you.
Then the forest stops feeling empty.
Whether you survive depends entirely on your decisions. Keep your fire burning. Travel quietly. Don’t wander during blizzards unless absolutely necessary. Pay attention to the sounds around you. Learn the forest’s rhythms. Sometimes the safest choice is simply to stay inside, listening to the wind howl outside while hoping that whatever is moving beyond your cabin never decides to knock on your door.
Despite its horror, Call of Vibethulu embraces moments of comfort. Build a secluded cabin deep within the woods, decorate it with warm lighting and handcrafted furniture, cultivate medicinal herbs, cook hearty meals, brew potions and herbal teas, and gather around a crackling fireplace while snow piles against the windows. Those peaceful moments are precious because the world outside constantly reminds you how fragile they truly are.
This modpack is inspired by atmospheric horror films and games such as The Ritual, The Blair Witch Project, The Long Dark, Sons of the Forest, Darkwood, and the cosmic horror of H. P. Lovecraft. Rather than relying on cheap jump scares or endless combat, it builds tension through uncert…
