Description
Cobble City RPG
Two dreams, one world: become the Pokémon Champion and build a city worth defending.
⚠️ Beta: playable, but still growing. The core of the pack is in place, but it's still in active development. Mods may be added, swapped or removed between versions, and an update might not be kind to an existing world. Back up your saves, report what you find, and enjoy an early look at something still taking shape.
A note from HammaLlama about the beta
Hey everyone! Before anybody gets too invested in the beta, I want to explain a few things.
- Quests: They're unfinished, but they should upgrade smoothly as long as I'm careful with requirements, items and mod events.
- Trainer series (progression): There are only 2 for now (the default settings), but I'm making several more. I'm also trying to make finding and finishing them more interesting than just running around the world looking for a trainer in the right biome. This should update smoothly too, because I'm not changing the series that come with the mod.
- Gym locations: Every location is subject to change. Building a unique experience means some gyms will have to move, and that'll make areas you've already explored in an ongoing world look a little strange. If you don't mind an explored chunk maybe having the wrong gym in it, you'll be fine. If you want the full experience, though, you'll want to start a new world.
- Loot: I've been tweaking the loot tables so they feel rewarding but still scale with how rare the chest is. As I keep doing that, you'll only see the changes in chests from newly explored chunks. Again, a new world is recommended once the full release is out.
I'm sure there's more, but these are the things I've noticed while testing the pack. I just want everyone to know ahead of time, so if you hit the update button you're not shocked when some of these changes don't show up in your current world until you explore new chunks.
The theme
Cobble City RPG is a Pokémon adventure where the map isn't the only thing you shape. You can follow a trainer's journey from your first Poké Ball to the Pokémon League. Along the way, a small camp of settlers can grow into a thriving city you design and run, and that city is your home base for everything else.
How progression works
- Start your journey. New players spawn with 10 Premier Balls, a Trainer Card and an unbreakable elytra, and Cobblemon starters are waiting. Explore Terralith biomes, catch your first team, and stumble across Pokémon towns with PokéCenters, PokéMarts and department stores. Structure chests hide Cobblemon loot too, from Poké Balls and potions to evolution stones and Rare Candy.
- Earn your badges. Radical Cobblemon Trainers fills the world with more than 1,500 trainers from Radical Red, Unbound and Brilliant Diamond / Shining Pearl. A level cap keeps your team in check until you beat the next key trainer. Hunt down the Kanto gyms with an Explorer's Compass, take on each leader, and collect badges on the way to the League.
- Found your colony. Place a MineColonies Town Hall and start hiring. Choose from more than a dozen architectural styles, assign builders, farmers, miners and guards, and watch the town grow block by block. Cobblemon: Colonies turns it into a Pokémon city, with a Pokémon Center, Poké Mart, Daycare, Trainer Academy, Battle Arena and more, staffed by your colonists and their Pokémon.
- Industrialize. Create contraptions, Refined Storage networks and Mystical Agriculture farms turn your city into a machine. Colony couriers can pull from your storage network and request autocrafting. Mega Showdown unlocks Mega Evolution, Z-Moves and Terastallization as your team grows stronger.
- Push the frontier. Track down legendaries with Legendary Monuments, raid When Dungeons Arise castles and YUNG's reworked dungeons, and open a portal to the Eternal Starlight dimension when the overworld feels too small.
Built for playing together
FTB Teams and Chunks let friends share a claim and a colony. Waystones and JourneyMap, with Pokémon icons, keep everyone connected. Sophisticated Backpacks, Lootr and Corpse make sure nobody loses their loot on the way, and anything worn in your accessory slots (elytra, backpack, relics) stays with you when you die. The pack is tuned for small dedicated servers.
Performance
Sodium, ModernFix and FerriteCore are included. Iris ships with Complementary Reimagined, which is off by default (press K to turn it on). Plan on 8 GB of RAM or more for the client.
Server owners
- In
server.properties, setenable-command-block=true(the gyms need it) andallow-flight=true(for flying Pokémon). - Command block chat messages are turned off automatically.
commandBlockOutputis a game rule, not aserver.propertiessetting; if you still see the messages, run/gamerule commandBlockOutput false. - Give the server about 10 GB of RAM.
- Need a server? BisectHosting can run Cobble City RPG for you.
FAQ
The Pokémon icons on the map are hard to see. Can I make them bigger?
Yes. Press M to open the JourneyMap full-screen map, then O for its options. In the Pokemon Options section, raise the Pokémon display scale (2.0 works well). If the setting shows up as jm.mod.addon.pokemon.options.display_scale, that's the one; JourneyMap is missing its label.
