Description

Echoes of the Aether

A quest-led fantasy RPG modpack for Minecraft 1.20.1 on Fabric.

Your journey begins at Aether's Rest, a floating town above the clouds. Beyond the town stand three ancient strongholds: the Ember Crown, the Frostbound Citadel, and the Stormspire Temple. Each guards an essence that belongs to the adventurer who earns it. Together, those essences unlock a sanctuary that has waited far too long for someone to return.

Follow an eight-chapter FTB Quests story from your first preparations through the guardian temples, the soulbound Sanctum Key, the Sanctum Market, and the trials beyond. Build a character around melee combat, magic, or divine power, find equipment in dangerous structures, and return to town to prepare for the next expedition.

Your adventure

  • A town to come home to. Aether's Rest provides a floating starting hub, sky bridges to the three Overworld temples, and a Stable Master with mounts.

  • Three guardian temples. Explore large, branching dungeon layouts and find the route to each altar.

  • Personal progression. Earn guardian essences and create a soulbound key to the Aether Sanctum.

  • A sanctuary beyond the Overworld. Visit the market, pursue stronger equipment, and tackle the custom dungeon progression.

  • A continuing challenge. The Endless Spire saves your first unfinished floor when you leave. Continue the ascent later, or deliberately start over at floor 1. Death resets the run.

  • More reasons to explore. When Dungeons Arise, YUNG's Better Dungeons, and Bosses of Mass Destruction expand the surrounding adventure.

  • Combat and character building. Better Combat, Simply Swords, Wizards, Paladins & Priests, Spell Engine, and their supporting libraries broaden your equipment and spell choices.

  • Practical comforts. Sophisticated Backpacks, EMI, Xaero's maps, per-player Lootr chests, and the Echoes inventory trash button help keep an expedition manageable.

  • More everyday comforts. Waystones, FTB Ultimine, Experience Bottler, Zoomify, and searchable controls help with travel, gathering, storage, and setup. A Patchouli Field Guide explains the custom adventure.

Getting started

Install through the CurseForge app and create a new world. Open the quest book from the inventory sidebar and follow the first chapter. The three guardian temples are part of the Overworld starter region; no elemental compass is needed.

Use Java 17. A starting memory allocation of 6 GB is suggested; adjust it for your computer and settings. Shaders and external GUI resource packs are not bundled. The Echoes interface is included.

Beta notes

The Endless Spire currently uses a shared arena, allowing one active entrant at a time. Leaving preserves the floor checkpoint, but unfinished encounters restart at full health; collect chest rewards before leaving. The trash button permanently deletes the stack held on your cursor.

This is an early public beta. Back up worlds before updating. The beta passed eight automated checks and loaded into a test world with the official dependency files. Continued playtesting and balance feedback are welcome.

A note from the creator

This is my first time making a project like this, and I’d love to hear what you think. If something feels clunky, confusing, too easy, or too difficult—or if loot and drop rates could use adjusting—please let me know. Bug reports, suggestions, and feedback of any kind are appreciated. Thanks for giving Echoes of the Aether a try!
