I have compiled this pack - none coded by me - for the server I am helping make and run. 

Major mods:
Applied Energistics 2 (+addon mod) - Automation mod, commonly known for the ME system. Use this to make a massive automatic storage system to organise your base.

Mekanism (+addon mod) - Automation mod, More physical. I use this one mainly for power generation, especially with the large amount of interesting and useful generators.
Tinkers construct - Main bit: Massive multi-block smeltery. Extras: Custom weapons!

Better Builder's Wands - Requested mod for building large structures.

Chisel and Bits - Intricate custom blocks. Be careful not to use it on any blocks you don't want carved...

EnderIO - Magic/Tech mod, Good for fluids and many interesting features

Gravestone mod

JEI (+addon mod) - recipe book +++

Morph - My favourite in this pack, You can change into anything you kill.

Mowzie's mobs - A mod adding lots of creatures to make the game more challenging

Thuamcraft - A magic mod (I haven't tested it) Adding lots of weapons and ways to screw with your friends.

Twilight forest - New dimension with bosses and weapons

And many more.
