About

Description

Messenger's Return 2 is an expansive, vanilla-flavored high fantasy, kitchen-sink sandbox focused on immersion, and encouraging creativity. Hand-tailored to reward all styles of play, and incentivize players to come together to accomplish their goals and fight off the elements. Or fight each other, I'm not your mother.

"Best approached like Vanilla; Consumed commonly like the front-end of a train at 79mph."

  • Outstanding client and server performance for a kitchen-sink pack!
  • See all new dimensions, or craft your own!
  • Delve head-first (likely accidentally) into a wide range of magical and technological fields and studies!
  • Craft and forge hundreds of new pieces of equipment and armor!
  • See new creatures! Definitely not all friendly!
  • Tame all manner of friendly creatures! Sometimes including not friendly ones!
  • Physics-based airships! You won't believe me until you see it!
  • Chad farmer, or chef? We have you covered with extensive farming and cooking mechanics!
  • A sandbox experience with no pre-made story, no tutorial, and no hand-holding!
  • Meant to be played like vanilla, just with more!
  • Join our exceedingly chill SMP Server!

  • A high impact love letter to our old 1.12.2 modpack, The Messenger's Kit; The Messenger's Return 2 possesses 90+% of the content of the old pack while also bearing a revitalized priority geared towards performance and exploration, so we can have as much fun with as many friends as possible!
  • Primarily made for my large group of mates for our multiplayer server, but also works wonderfully in singleplayer. If you'd like to join us, our discord link is below!

<<<NECESSARY OPTIMIZATION STEPS>>>

In the Curseforge app, Click on the gear Icon in the bottom left corner > Click on the "Minecraft" Tab >> Scroll to the very bottom until you can see the "Java Settings" category >> Find the dot slider representing how much RAM to dedicate to Minecraft and drag it to the right until it it reads 8192 if you have 12=< GB of RAM, or 4096 or 6144 if you have 8GB>= of RAM (If you have less than 4GB of RAM, you will be unable to play the pack; don't let me stop you from making an attempt though!) (Also If you are unsure how much RAM you have, follow this guide: LINK) >> Next copy and paste these command arguments into the bar marked "Additional Arguments" just below the Allocated Memory slider:

-XX:+UnlockExperimentalVMOptions -XX:+UnlockDiagnosticVMOptions -XX:+AlwaysActAsServerClassMachine -XX:+AlwaysPreTouch -XX:+DisableExplicitGC -XX:+UseNUMA -XX:NmethodSweepActivity=1 -XX:ReservedCodeCacheSize=400M -XX:-DontCompileHugeMethods -XX:MaxNodeLimit=240000 -XX:NodeLimitFudgeFactor=8000 -XX:+PerfDisableSharedMem -XX:+UseFastUnorderedTimeStamps -XX:+UseCriticalJavaThreadPriority -XX:ThreadPriorityPolicy=1 -XX:AllocatePrefetchStyle=3 -XX:+UseG1GC -XX:MaxGCPauseMillis=50 -XX:G1HeapRegionSize=16M -XX:G1NewSizePercent=20 -XX:G1ReservePercent=30 -XX:SurvivorRatio=32 -XX:G1MixedGCCountTarget=3 -XX:G1HeapWastePercent=20 -XX:InitiatingHeapOccupancyPercent=10 -XX:G1RSetUpdatingPauseTimePercent=0 -XX:MaxTenuringThreshold=1 -XX:G1SATBBufferEnqueueingThresholdPercent=30 -XX:G1ConcMarkStepDurationMillis=5.0 -XX:G1ConcRSHotCardLimit=16 -XX:G1ConcRefinementServiceIntervalMillis=150 -XX:GCTimeRatio=5 -XX:+UseStringDeduplication -XX:+UseCompressedOops -XX:+UseCodeCacheFlushing -XX:-UsePerfData -XX:+AggressiveOpts -XX:+ParallelRefProcEnabled

(These JVM arguments also work really well for other 1.12.2 modpacks and low RAM, thanks brucethemoose for the base args, I just edited them slightly <3)

Optionally, you can install Optifine for shaders/texture updates from Here into the pack's mods folder, but Optifine slows your game down slightly and creates many shading errors, so I don't currently recommend it.

<<<Q/A>>>

"Why is my health starting so low?"

Your health can increase in a number of ways in TMR2, but one of the ways is eating new foods. You need to eat at least 5 new foods when starting out to get back to the baseline 20HP (10 Hearts). If you are in the Betweenlands, you might have to restore your corruption level via "Ball of Sap", "Weeping Blue Petal", or similar means. If all that doesn't apply, you were probably dimension hopping and got the health bug, which requires a simple disconnect/reconnect to fix.

"Why is everything hitting so hard, including me?"

All damage, outgoing and incoming, is doubled. Along with this, backstabs deal an additional double damage. This is both to your advantage, and disadvantage. The purpose of this is to increase the lethality and combat options when engaging enemies, and allow low-to-mid grade weapons and equipment to be effective in a wider set of scenarios.

"Why are caves so dark?"

To increase the fear factor when entering caves and unexplored areas, as well as increase the value of effective lighting, and previously underrated night vision capabilities.

"I died in the void, how do I get my stuff back?"

Your body, with all of your items, will be floating on the void just above the spot you died, waiting for you to retrieve it.

"I can't join the SMP server?"

Join our discord and introduce yourself in the general chat, and then @SevArktic will whitelist you manually.

<<<KNOWN BUGS>>>

Visually Missing Chunks

Sometimes random chunks around you will be visually missing while playing in a multiplayer environment. Easiest fix is to hit [F3 + A] to reload all chunks. Do this as many times as you need until the chunks are rendered properly. If that doesn't fix it, disconnect and reconnect.

Gameplay Freezing/Hard Stuttering/Boot Crashing

Allocate more RAM to Minecraft. Primary cause is capping out your RAM in-game. This is visible in the upper right corner in the F3 debug menu while in-game.

Weird Shadows/Light/Shading Artifacts

This one has popped up very recently, and I'm not certain what's doing it. It is a priority of mine, but there is no fix just yet.

Build Tool Crash/Building won't place with Building Tool

Structures will crash you if you try to place them and they have either a: Poppet Shelf, or anything from the Fairy Lights mod connected to a fence post.

Putzy Broom Disappearing/Not Working

Craft your broom into a Flying Things Broom via any crafting window. The only broom from Bewitchment that works right now is the Juniper Broom.

Gacha Shroom Elixir Kitchen Crash

Don't craft Gacha Mushroom Elixirs with a multiblock kitchen.

Aether Inventory Drops Normally on Death

No known fix. If your Aether equipment unfortunately despawns, I'd recommend spawning it back using creative mode.

Thaumcraft Perma-Fog/Blindness

Occurs when the player hallucinates Eldritch beings near them. Occasionally the fog from the sanity effect doesn't return to normal. Fix is to fully restart your game.

Betweenlands Stymphalian Bird Flocks

No fix just yet. They can just occasionally spawn there until either Ice & Fire gets a 1.12.2 update that fixes that, or we develop a workaround.

Placed Backpack Causes Inventory Ghosting

Happens when you access a backpack another logged-on player has placed on the ground. Fix is to break the backpack with your hands, then place it on the ground yourself via [Crouch] + [Right Click].

<<<CREDITS AND SUCH>>>

I don't own any of the mods inside this pack, all credits go to the awesome people who made them; I just fine tuned their configs so they all work well together. I also don't own any of the images or sounds found in the server's resource pack, they were compiled from other amazing resource packs, or from popular games such as Bethesda's The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim; I may have made adjustments to said images or sounds, but I did not make them. Optifine Overworld night sky texture and darkness shader coloring was ported from the old SMP Revival Texture Pack.
