About

Description

This pack is designed as an introduction into the world of modded Minecraft. While the vanilla player should feel largely at home, players can extend into some introductory mods so as to learn some fundamentals found in a number of larger modpacks...without feeling overwhelmed by the sheer number of mods.

As of yet there are no quest books or progression locks. You can simply enjoy the game as you wish, diving into some of the more advanced mods if you wish, but are in no way required or compelled to do so.

Extending the vanilla experience:

  • Chisel adds a chisel (how 'bout that), which lets a number of blocks be modified with new designs, giving the builder and designer a larger palette for their creations.
  • Biomes O' Plenty adds a number of interesting new biomes to explore, experience, and to call home.
  • Pam's HarvestCraft is a lovely mod that adds an incredible amount of new crops and foods, all of which give the farmer, rancher, and builder a lot of new items to explore.
  • AppleSkin is a simple mod that gives some in-game information regarding your food, showing you the characteristics of the food (hunger and saturation levels).
  • FTB Utilities adds a simple team system with a map-based land claiming for base protection.
  • Aroma1997's Dimensional World, AKA "mining world" is a very nice and early accessible resource world where you can carve up the landscape while leaving the overworld clean.
  • JourneyMap is a very helpful and easy to use map, providing waypoints on death, and user created waypoints.
  • Just Enough Items (JEI) is a very handy recipe database. It will show you all items, and through click R or U on an item, you can find out how to make an item (R), or what you can do with that item (U).
  • Rustic is a nice content mod that adds some crop benefits (apiaries), cosmetic items, and a simple brewing/alchemy potion system.
  • Storage Drawers adds a nice immersive and early-game storage system that is simple to use and rather helpful in your storage needs.

A foray into mods:

  • Tinkers Construct is a staple of many modpacks that has been around for some time. Tinkers is a whole system that allows you to create and maintain very useful tools and weapons. Think of it like an advanced and feature-filled anvil...with much more.
  • Thermal series is a suite of mods that provides a nice introduction and progression into block machines and automation that are such a core of many advanced modpacks. The Thermal machines are nice looking blocks with an easy to use GUI.
  • RFTools is another introduction into a robust and complex system. Provides a nice storage system and some handy tools like the builder which when given blocks can build massive structures, or quarry clear entire swaths of land. Ability for remote storage access and crafting.
  • XNet, when coupled with RFTools and the Thermal series, provides a system for networking and automation.

Both Thermal, RFTools, and XNet are moderately difficult mods that will require you to consult their in-game manuals, or other online resources (official documentation or videos) to get a good understanding of how they work. I've chosen these mods as most all will begin with basic vanilla resources that you would be used to. More advanced machines in Thermal and RFTools will require non-vanilla items, but these are progressed into as one builds and upgrades, which becomes easier to understand as one progresses.

The pack's official server is currently open, though eventually a whitelist will be enforced. To find the official server, click the "Public Server List" after clicking the Multiplayer option in the Minecraft client, and you'll see it in the list.

I will also be streaming from the official server on a regular basis. Check out my channel for older videos or to hang out during streams: https://www.twitch.tv/monkmalp
