Description
From stone to stars
Remember SevTech: Ages? Starting with nothing, earning every era, and that feeling when the next age finally opened? Project Ages brings that journey to Minecraft 1.21.1 with NeoForge and today's mods.
You start with bare hands in the Stone Age and climb through eight ages, all the way to space. Each age stays locked until you've earned the one before it, and its items and recipes stay hidden until you get there. There's always a next thing to chase.
8 ages · 330 quests · 260 mods · a lore book that grows as you climb
The pack is in beta. It's playable from start to finish, but expect rough edges. Bug reports help a lot (see below).
The ages
- Age 0: The Stone Age. Bare hands, no crafting table, and trees won't fall to your fists. Everything starts with flint and stone.
- Age I: Bronze. Clay, fire and metal. Your first real tools, farming and cooking that finally matter, and a ranch: cows to milk, dogs to train, ducks on the pond.
- Age II: Medieval and Ritual. Magic arrives. Spells, starlight or blood: the path is yours.
- Age III: The Twilight. A haunted forest full of bosses, and a sky realm above the clouds.
- Age IV: Steam. Create and its add-ons: machines, trains, airships, submarines, and machines that walk.
- Age V: Industry. Electricity, digital storage, pressure and oil, and web screens to watch videos with friends.
- Age VI: Advanced Tech. Mekanism and the power of the atom, and, if you want them, guns, missiles and a bunker to launch them from.
- Age VII: Space. Fly Ad Astra's rockets or build your own, land on the Moon, Mars, Venus, Mercury and Glacio, and reach a finale worth the climb.
What makes it different
- Every age is earned. Each one opens with a big moment, like forging the Steam Core from the essence of the Twilight Forest's Lich. Locked items stay hidden in JEI, can't be crafted, and can't be picked up until you get there.
- A quest book that guides you. 330 quests lay out every age as a clear path, with side chapters for cooking, magic, workshops, storage, home building, exploring, warfare and bosses. Every quest gives something useful for that stage.
- The Chronicle of Ages. A lore book written by someone who walked the road before you. A new chapter opens with each age, with practical field notes alongside the story.
- A trophy for every age, and at the very end, the Heart of the Ages: carry it and you fly. Sneak and right-click it to switch its powers off and on.
- A harder start. Felling a tree takes real effort, and trees topple over. Stone Age tools wear out. Seasons are on.
- Worlds worth exploring. Terralith and Tectonic reshape the land, Incendium remakes the Nether, and Enderscape fills the End with forests, crags and floating islands.
- Build what moves. Airships with thrusters and gyroscopes, submarines that dive, and walking mechs built from any blocks with Let it Walk!.
- Two ways to space. Craft Ad Astra's rockets, or build your own rocket from Create parts with Create: Northstar. The quests accept either one, so you never need both.
- Looks great out of the box. Distant Horizons and the Complementary Reimagined shaders are on by default, with a lighter shader for weaker computers. Glass connects into clean windows. JourneyMap, middle-click inventory sorting, dark-mode inventories and borderless fullscreen are included.
Playing with friends
Play in single-player or on a server. Everyone needs the same pack version. Each player climbs the ages at their own pace.
No server needed: in your world, press Esc, then Open to LAN, then Start LAN World. You get an address that friends paste into Multiplayer, Direct Connect. No port forwarding.
Running your own server is easy: the server pack comes with a control panel that opens in your browser. It sets everything up, downloads the mods for you, runs backups and restarts, and moves your server to new versions with one click. It can run several servers at once (say, survival and creative) from one page, put them all behind one address so friends switch with a command, and make invite files that set up the pack for your friends.
Requirements
- Minecraft 1.21.1 with NeoForge 21.1.259 (the CurseForge app installs it for you).
- At least 8 GB of RAM for the game (10 GB or more is better). There are over 200 mods, so the first launch takes a while.
- A computer that can run shaders, or turn them off in the video settings.
Found a bug?
Type /bugreport in game: a report form opens right in the game, with your game log attached (and your last screenshot, if you like). No account needed, and you can report anonymously. Everyone who reports a bug that gets fixed is thanked in the changelog (unless they'd rather not be).
You can also report on the pack's website, mc.cobaltforge.net.
