Description
SILENT CITIES is back, and it's currently in BETA.
the return
Silent Cities is finally back.
It's been a very long time since I've properly touched this pack, but I've finally brought it back and I'm currently working on getting things moving again.
Right now, the pack is in BETA. There are still some bugs and rough edges that need to be dealt with, so don't expect everything to be perfectly polished just yet.
what is silent cities?
Silent Cities is a gritty zombie survival modpack built around the feeling of being thrown into a world that has already fallen apart.
The goal isn't simply to make Minecraft harder by throwing more zombies at you. It's about creating a world that feels dangerous, abandoned, and hostile while still giving you reasons to explore, scavenge, build, and survive.
If you're looking for another giant kitchen-sink modpack, this probably isn't it. Silent Cities is intended to have its own identity, atmosphere, and gameplay loop.
beta status
This is a beta. Bugs are expected. Some things may not be configured perfectly, some features may feel unfinished, and you may run into issues that haven't been discovered or fixed yet.
If you run into something broken, weird, or just plain cursed, there's a good chance it's something I'm already aware of or something that needs investigating. Feedback and bug reports are always appreciated.
it's a heavy one
Silent Cities is not a lightweight modpack.
My own hardware is from around 2020, and honestly, it's getting pretty close to struggling with the pack. Silent Cities makes absolutely no compromises when it comes to visual fidelity. Atmosphere, lighting, environments, animations, and overall presentation are all a major part of the experience.
That does mean the pack is fairly demanding. I try to optimize things as much as possible without sacrificing the visual quality I'm aiming for, but there are limits to how much I can squeeze out of it.
Then again, you guys probably have better PCs than I do anyway. 💀
I've also got a lot of other projects going on at the moment, so updates aren't going to happen at the speed of a full-time developer.
That said, Silent Cities isn't abandoned. I'm going to be looking into more updates and improvements when I have the time.
what happened?
Honestly? A lot has happened since I last properly worked on this.
In the meantime, I actually started learning how to code.
...kinda.
I'm still very much figuring things out, but I've learned enough to start messing around with things I couldn't properly touch before. (Un)fortunately, I'm also still stuck working primarily with Minecraft 1.12.2.
1.12.2 forever™
Yes, we're still here.
Minecraft 1.12.2 remains the version I'm working with, and while that comes with its own collection of ancient modding problems, it's also the ecosystem where a lot of the projects I'm interested in are happening.
I'm currently working on multiple projects for another much larger modpack as well, which is taking up a considerable amount of my time.
what's next?
A proper, much more detailed description will come eventually.
Right now, I haven't touched this page up in a long time, and I'd rather spend my limited time actually working on the pack than writing a massive description about a pack that's still being worked on.
More information, features, screenshots, configuration details, and probably a lot of other stuff will be added once I have the time to properly put everything together.
for now
- Silent Cities is back.
- It's currently in BETA.

THE CITIES ARE QUIET.
// but they're not empty.
