Description

Smooth Odyssey

Smooth Odyssey is a performance-focused action RPG modpack for Minecraft 1.20.1.

Designed for players who want a large RPG experience without turning Minecraft into a PowerPoint presentation, Smooth Odyssey combines skill-based combat, classes, progression, transformations, bosses, exploration, and hundreds of mods while keeping performance a priority.

Start as a normal adventurer, choose your path, become stronger, explore farther, and eventually become something that probably shouldn't be considered human anymore.

Performance First

Smooth Odyssey uses a heavily optimized Fabric setup with Sodium, Lithium, FerriteCore, ModernFix, C2ME, Entity Culling, More Culling, Krypton, and many other performance improvements.

The goal is simple:

Big RPG modpack. Less suffering for your PC.

Skill-Based Combat

Combat isn't just about having the weapon with the biggest number.

Smooth Odyssey combines Better Combat, Riposte, Combat Roll, Simply Swords, and Soulslike Weaponry to create a faster and more skill-based combat system.

Attack → Read the enemy → Parry or Dodge → Counterattack.

Riposte introduces timing-based parrying, while Combat Roll gives you another defensive option. Learning enemy attack patterns can allow you to defeat enemies much stronger than you.

Unless they blind you.

Then good luck.

Smooth Progression

Smooth Odyssey includes its own custom progression system.

Enemies become stronger as you travel farther from the starting area, gaining higher levels, health, and damage. Some enemies can also appear as stronger Elite variants.

The Nether and End begin at higher difficulty levels, making dimensional progression significantly more dangerous.

Explore → Fight → Get Stronger → Explore Farther → Regret Going Too Far

Player skill still matters. A high-level enemy isn't automatically unbeatable if you understand its attacks, but some enemies may require better equipment, skills, or later progression before fighting them becomes reasonable.

Classes and Skill Trees

Choose from multiple RPG playstyles including Paladins, Archers, Wizards, Bards, Rogues, and more.

Develop your character through Simply Skills, Puffish Skills, Spell Engine, equipment attributes, accessories, spells, and unique weapons.

Build around melee combat, ranged combat, magic, support, summoning, mobility, or combine several systems into your own playstyle.

Supernatural Evolutions

Your starting class isn't necessarily your final form.

Through Bewitchment, Besmirchment, and other progression systems, you can eventually unlock supernatural paths such as:

  • Vampire
  • Werewolf
  • Lich / Necromantic paths
  • Other transformations waiting to be discovered

Transformations aren't simply cosmetic. They introduce new abilities and can completely change how you approach certain enemies and encounters.

You start as Steve.

What happens afterward is between you and whatever dark ritual you found.

Dangerous Enemies and Bosses

Face mutated creatures, undead monsters, hostile factions, minibosses, and major bosses from Mutant Monsters, Rotten Creatures, Illager Invasion, AdventureZ, Aquamirae, Bosses of Mass Destruction, Soulslike Weaponry, and many more.

Combined with Smooth Progression, enemies encountered farther into the world can become significantly stronger.

Some enemies are stat checks.

Some require good equipment.

Some require learning their mechanics.

And some exist specifically to remind you that running away is a valid strategy.

Exploration

Explore an expanded Overworld, Nether, End, The Aether, The Bumblezone, and other locations filled with structures, dungeons, ruins, villages, bosses, and hidden areas.

Mods such as Dungeons Arise, Integrated Structures, Moog's Structures, Structory, Philips Ruins, Sky Villages, and many others make exploration one of the main parts of progression.

Structure generation has also been tuned to keep the world interesting without every dungeon deciding to become roommates with another dungeon.

Weapons, Magic and Builds

Discover swords, spears, scythes, claymores, greatswords, bows, magical weapons, artifacts, and unique boss equipment.

Magic is expanded through Spell Engine, Archon, RPG classes, Simply Skills, Bewitchment, and other systems.

Create melee, magic, ranged, summoner, tank, support, mobility, or hybrid builds.

Or use a weapon purely because it looks cool.

That's also valid character progression.

Create and Survival

Smooth Odyssey is primarily a fantasy RPG, but Create remains available for players who enjoy engineering, automation, transportation, and unnecessarily complicated machines.

Food and survival are expanded through Farmer's Delight and compatible addons.

Fight monsters.

Become a vampire.

Kill a god.

Come home and make a sandwich.

Why Smooth Odyssey?

Smooth Odyssey is built around three main ideas:

Performance. Progression. Player Skill.

Your class changes how you fight.

Your skills shape your build.

Your equipment changes your options.

Your transformations unlock new possibilities.

Your combat skill determines what you can challenge.

And the farther you explore, the stronger the world becomes.

Current Development

Smooth Odyssey is actively developed and is no longer in Beta.

Balancing, progression, compatibility, and performance will continue to improve as the modpack evolves.

A custom FTB Quests progression line is currently in development to guide players through classes, exploration, bosses, dimensions, transformations, and progression.

Future updates will continue expanding:

  • Smooth Progression
  • Elite encounters
  • Quest progression
  • Transformations
  • Boss and miniboss balancing
  • Loot progression
  • Performance and compatibility

The Odyssey is getting smoother.

Probably.
