About

Description

Strait Jacket is a challenging yet fun and not too complicated modpack that integrates the classic magic and tech options but twists each concept to the core.

Combat and Magic, Combined.

  • Overhauled combat system making use of novelty mods like Focus, which adds a proper cinematic view lock-on system for third-person combat (Literally Z-Targeting from Ocarina of Time) — a camera that stays centered on your target and makes fights feel a lot more deliberate.
  • Visceral Combat adds forward lunges on attack Paired with the classic Better Combat and some speed restrictions it creates a combat system similar to Epic Fight but friendlier and more cinematic.

These along with magic mainly from Iron's Spells and Spellbooks plus many addons for new spells, weapons, armors and QoL mods that integrate smart spell-casting detection with the overhauled camera system of Shoulder Surfing + Focus + Combat Roll, makes every fight a thrilling experience based on skill, not just equipment level and stats.

Overhauled equipment system

And speaking about equipment and stats Overgeared overhauls tool and armor crafting with a deep forging system that rewards player skill, preparation, and progression. It introduces a more immersive approach to metalworking, blueprint crafting, and alloying. Become the blacksmith you were meant to be.

This system is deeply integrated using KubeJS in a lot of armors with custom recipes of Iron's Spells and Spellbooks, so the base for mages almost always starts with Overgeared.

Exploration

  • Explore a constantly changing live world with human nomads roaming the land, magical creatures, different races and more, some of it thanks to a system by Fantasy Knights & Factions, which adds random encounters, dynamic events, and skirmishes across the world.

There is also a complete overhaul on vanilla civilizations. Villagers are now the pinnacle of civilization in the overworld, with custom dialogue, questing, reputation, and many more features from Villager Retaliation! by the same author of Focus that makes villages remember how you treat them. Think twice about stealing or hitting a villager: their settlements are packed with guards, priests that can use magic, iron golems, and even normal villagers will fight back.

Pillagers have not gone quiet either. It Takes a Pillage Continuation expands their civilization with encampments and fortresses all over the world, making them a thousand times more dangerous. Some say they have advanced further than magic and into technology since the Great Merge, Illager scholars studied the now-gone CyberHumans civilization, and probably even adapted it.

The Great Merge and the Lost Civilizations

The CyberHumans: a Type 1 civilization of extremely advanced beings that integrated technology as body augments, granting strength, speed, intelligence, and many more advantages. Due to the lack of magic in their homeworld, their bodies could not adapt to this world with overflowing magic and thus became brainless monsters. All of these coming from the mod Cybernetics, you might encounter a cyber skeleton or a baby cyber zombie with a freaking Sandevistan, just imagine that!

The Ancients: believed by some to be a Type 2 civilization, but their star and homeworld decayed. Some say they came here even before the Great Merge. Now you can use this technology from Halcyon | Data & Essence to build constructs that far expand your resource gathering, crafting, and more but beware: this technology is unknown, and to master it you must first delve into the remnants of this civilization and extract information from their databanks.

And last, a mysterious group called the Time Variance Authority came to analyze this multidimensional catastrophic  event, then left mysteriously but by mistake left an apparatus known as the knowledge projectors. With Tempad, this gave us the ability to create space and time doors to travel great distances and even dimensions. So no magical waystones scattered around the world, you have to create this technology yourself!

The Overlords and Boss Fights

All of this chaos also created unbalance. We call them “Overlords” powerful beings deriving from alternate dimensions that now rule with an iron fist many of the regions of this world. Experience cinematic and thrilling boss fights with custom intros from Bosses'Rise and Cinematic Cataclysm which adds custom cutscenes to Cataclysm bosses as well. Plus novelty mods like Cult Of Azazel that adds a ruthless new nether-demon-like bossfight with custom structures, mobs, dialogue scenes, items, and more.

Loot Worth Fighting For

And what is a good bossfight without the loot from after? Lootr is perfect for multiplayer, with instanced per-player chests so everyone can get the goods or almost anyone, if you can pass the challenge of Clavis that implenets an skill based chest looting system

Beyond the Overworld

But all of this is just the Overworld. The Great Merge created tears in the fabric of reality, opening portals to different dimensions. Expect a totally overhauled and scarier Nether with Cult of Azazel, Incision, Incendium, Amplified Nether, and many more. Travel to the deepest of the realms if you are brave and enter The Otherside, origin of the sculk where danger is just like breathing. And finally reach The End, a barren yet alive and chaos-filled dimension with overhauled generation from The Beyond, which fully overhauls the End with new biomes, mobs, structures, and mechanics while building on lore in a fun way. Explore the hidden lore, entities, NPCs, and new dangers this dimension has to offer.

Cinematic Player Animations

Fighting, exploring, creating, building, traveling are amazing and fun, but immersion sometimes feels lacking one reason being the classic Minecraft animation system. No one in their right mind would choose vanilla Minecraft over something like Actions n Stuff. That is why player animations are completely overhauled with Fresh Animations: Player Extension. And forget the incompatibility with Better Combat, Iron's Spells, and any other mod using PlayerAnimator with the custom mod Entity Player Compat, every animation is fine-tuned to match and create a compatibility bridge between these systems.

Performance

All of this sounds resource-expensive, right? Well, it is not. Strait Jacket is specifically made to be as performant as possible, making use of cutting-edge new-gen mods like Sodium 8.0, Ixeris, Gnetum, Kerria, and the classics like Lithium, C2ME, and many more plus a curated selection of stylized shaders fine-tuned for great performance and stunning visuals matching the vibe. Even mid-low end hardware can get the job done with shaders, and for low-end without shaders, performance should be just fine.
