Description

Took The Long Way is a Minecraft adventure modpack built around a simple idea:

Minecraft is most enjoyable when you have reasons to keep exploring.

Rather than turning Minecraft into a completely different game, Took The Long Way builds on what already makes it special. The Overworld, Nether, and End are filled with new creatures, structures, environments, resources, and challenges. Combat, magic, movement, and progression have all been expanded to give you more ways to approach the game.

The result is a world that still feels like Minecraft, but one that's constantly tempting you to see what's waiting over the next hill.

🌎Explore a world worth getting lost in

Exploration is at the heart of Took The Long Way.

Every journey offers something worth finding. New structures, creatures, environments, and encounters give you plenty of reasons to leave the safety of your base, making exploration a natural part of progression instead of just a way to gather resources.

  • 🌿 Overhauled Overworld generation with new biomes and terrain.
  • 🏰 Hundreds of new structures, dungeons, towers and points of interest.
  • 🏘️ Larger villages with new buildings, villagers and professions.
  • 🕳️ New cave environments and underground rivers.
  • 🌋 A redesigned Nether with new terrain, structures and encounters.
  • 🌌 A heavily expanded End with new terrain, structures and encounters.
  • 🐉 New creatures, wildlife and hostile mobs across all dimensions.
  • 👹 New bosses, mutants and powerful enemies.
  • 🏛️ Reimagined versions of many vanilla structures.

 ➕ Extras

  • 🌌 Shader support with a preconfigured visual setup.
  • 🌙 Dynamic lunar events and changing moon phases.
  • 🔊 Richer ambient and environmental sounds.
  • 💡 Dynamic lighting.
  • 🐺 Improved creature models, textures and visual variety.
  • 🌲 More wildlife across the world.
  • 🪑 Additional furniture and decorative building options.
  • 📸 Picture Mode for screenshots.

The Nether and End have been expanded with the same philosophy.

They aren't just places you visit once, grab what you need, and never think about again.

There should always be another reason to return.

Especially in the End, some discoveries are better left for you to find on your own.

⚔️More ways to fight

Combat goes beyond simply dealing more damage. New weapons, enemies, equipment, magic, and abilities let you approach encounters in different ways.

Mobility plays a much bigger role too. Dodging, grappling, wall-jumping, and other movement abilities give you more freedom during both exploration and battle, but they still require timing and practice.

Rather than pushing you toward a single "best" setup, the pack gives you the tools to experiment and build your own playstyle.

  • ⚔️ Expanded melee combat with new weapons and weapon types.
  • 🔫 Guns as an alternative combat style.
  • ✨ A full magic system with spells, progression, and magical equipment.
  • 🧙 Multiple character builds through Passive Skill Trees.
  • 💎 Relics and Artifacts with unique effects and abilities.
  • 🌀 Dodge, wall-jump, and grappling-hook movement.
  • 🐲 Dragons and other creatures can become mounts.
  • 💥 New challenging enemies and boss encounters, including a Boss Checklist.

✨Progression that opens new possibilities

Progression is about unlocking new ways to interact with the world, not just watching your stats increase.

As you play, you'll gain access to new equipment, abilities, resources, and mechanics that open different approaches to exploration and combat.

Some discoveries will make you noticeably stronger.

Others may seem useless until the right moment comes along.

And every now and then, you'll come across something that makes you stop and think:

  • "Why does this exist?"

That's part of the fun.

  • 🌳 Passive Skill Trees for different builds.
  • 🔮 Spell progression and magical equipment.
  • ⚔️ Weapon leveling.
  • 🛡️ New weapons, armor and equipment to discover.
  • 📜 New enchantments and alternative enchanting options.
  • 🍎 A varied diet can grant unique bonuses.
  • 💰 Bounties with optional objectives and rewards.
  • 🧿 End Remastered completely changes progression to the End.
  • 📚 Reworked durability and enchanting.  ⚠️(Note from MrArcane: Please avoid enchanting with Unbreaking on the Infusion Table as you will waste experience, there is no durability on tools but I could not completely remove the enchatment)

🧭The long way is the point

There are plenty of ways to make Minecraft faster.

Travel farther.
Become stronger.
Automate everything.
Rush straight to the endgame.

Took The Long Way isn't built around getting there as quickly as possible.

It's built around making the journey itself worth taking.

You aren't expected to experience every mod, collect every item, or complete a giant checklist. Wander off the path, experiment with different ideas, take unnecessary detours, or ignore entire systems if something else catches your interest.

See something interesting on the horizon? Go have a look.

Find an area that's too dangerous? Mark it and return later.

Discover a new item that changes how you play? Build around it.

The world isn't there to be completed.
It's there to be explored.

  • 🧭 Structure, biome and exploration compasses.
  • 🗺️ Minimap and full world map.
  • 🗻 New locations and points of interest throughout the world.
  • 🚂 Waystones and other teleportation options.
  • 🏕️ Campfires can heal you and act as temporary spawn points.
  • ✈️ Aircraft and other vehicles for exploration.
  • 🚢 Additional ways to travel across the world.
  • 🌕 Blood, Blue and Harvest Moon events.
  • 🔥 Expanded Nether and End worth revisiting.

🏕️Quality of life without taking the game away

Took The Long Way includes a variety of quality-of-life improvements that reduce frustration while preserving what makes Minecraft's exploration and survival enjoyable.

Travel, inventory management, spawning, navigation, and many smaller mechanics have been adjusted to work naturally together without changing the core feel of the game.

The default configuration reflects the intended vision for Took The Long Way, so it's the recommended way to experience the pack. That said, visual options such as shaders and other client-side settings are entirely up to you, so, feel free to adjust them based on your preferences or your hardware.

  • 📦 Backpacks and additional storage options.
  • 🎒 Tool Belt for quick tool access.
  • 💀 Graves preserve your items after death.
  • 🧹 Easier inventory management and item handling.
  • 🏗️ Carry On lets you move certain blocks and entities.
  • 🏘️ Improved villages with guards and new trades.
  • 🤝 Trading Posts for convenient villager trading.
  • 🌐 e4mc for playing your world with friends in seconds.
  • 🎁 Lootr gives each player their own loot in multiplayer.

Extras

  • 🎣 Reworked fishing with a minigame and new catches.
  • 🎁 Loot from different mods is integrated into structures across the world.
  • 👺 Goblin Traders.
  • 🐦 Friends & Foes.
  • 🧟 Mutated versions of familiar creatures.
  • 🐾 Additional pets, mounts, and wildlife.
  • 💀 Pet Cemetery.

🎨Why does this pack exist?

Minecraft has always been a game about freedom.

You decide where to go, what to build, and which goals are worth chasing.

But after a while, it's easy to fall into familiar routines:

  • Gather resources.
  • Upgrade your gear.
  • Visit the Nether.
  • Defeat the Dragon.
  • Get an Elytra.
  • Build something.
  • Start over.

I created Took The Long Way because I wanted that sense of discovery back.

Not by turning Minecraft into a different game.

Not by making every moment harder than it needs to be.

And not by stuffing hundreds of mods together just for the sake of having more content.

I wanted to build on what already makes Minecraft special.

More reasons to explore,
places worth discovering,
ways to solve a problem,
moments that make you pause because something caught your eye.

My goal was to create a world where getting distracted isn't a mistake, but it's part of the adventure.

Sometimes, the best part of Minecraft is what you find while on your way to somewhere else.
