Extra
- Performance
If you are experiencing performance issues (low fps/crashing...) please read the following recommendations. Remember that this is a very large modpack and performance may be poor on lower-end systems, however, these are still worth a try.
1. RAM Allocation
- Before Starting
First, you'll need to find how much RAM your computer has installed. Do this by opening your Windows settings -> System -> About, once on the About page look for Installed RAM and the following number is how many gigabytes you have installed. One more thing to consider is your computer will use more RAM depending on how many programs you have open, Chrome, for example, is known for using lots of your computer's RAM while running. I would recommend having a look at Task Manager and clicking on More details, under the Processes tab there is a section called Memory, if the percentage is high then clicking on Memory will sort your active processes from the one that is using the most RAM to the one that is using the least and from there you can stop unneeded processes. (!) Don't stop processes that you do not recognize they may be important. (!)
- Allocating Ram on the Curse Forge Launcher
Now that you know how much RAM your computer has installed we need to give Minecraft permission to use more of it. For the Curse Forge Launcher do this by clicking the gear icon, Settings button in the bottom left. Next, select Minecraft under Game Specific and scroll down to Java Settings. Under Allocated Memory, for most computers, set this number to half of your computer's installed memory (Task Manager can give you a much more accurate idea of how much free memory your computer has). For example, if your computer has 8.0 GB of Installed RAM and Task Manager displays that when no major programs are open you have 50% Memory usage you would want to set the slider to 4000MB as half of your RAM is free to use.
2. The In-Game Settings you should look at First
- (Settings) FOV
Just a small note that FOV does in fact affect fps the larger the FOV the worse the fps. So if you don't mind a smaller FOV lowering it can be a good way to get some free performance.
Start by opening Video Settings...
- (General) Render Distance/ Simulation Distance
Lowering both of these settings will result in improved performance in virtually all situations.
- (Quality) Graphics
Lowering this setting will result in improved performance in virtually all situations.
- (Quality) Entity Shadows
Entity Shadows refer to the circular shadows cast below mobs and items, turning this off will have a very small effect.
- (Performance) Cull Leaves Depth
The lower this number the worse leaves will look but can significantly improve performance when leaves are on screen.
- Shaders
Thanks to Iris shaders are available for use with the modpack, however not all shaders which work on Optifine work with Iris. If you want some simple shaders pre-configured to give decent performance Click Here! simply place the zip file in your shaderpacks folder and unzip the file. Two files should appear the shader pack and the settings for it. Now just enable the shader pack in video settings!
