Description

# Umbral Hunt: Visual Edition

**You are not alone. It is watching, learning, and waiting for you to look away.**

Umbral Hunt is a focused survival-horror experience for Minecraft Forge 1.20.1. Instead of filling the world with unrelated monsters, dimensions, structures, and progression systems, the pack builds its horror around one persistent threat: **the Nightmare Stalker**.

The Stalker does not simply run toward you like a normal hostile mob. It watches from a distance, reacts when observed, disappears without warning, relocates around its target, sends unsettling messages, and gradually changes from a distant presence into an active hunter.

## The Nightmare Stalker

The Nightmare Stalker features:

- A custom 3D model, textures, animations, particles, and sound design
- Watching and stalking behavior
- Appearances behind trees and around the player
- Sudden disappearances and relocations
- Heartbeats, whispers, presence sounds, and screams
- Chat messages and visual omens
- Short title-card jumpscares
- Hunting that works beyond normal line of sight
- Configurable natural spawning and fear effects

Normal Stalkers can severely injure you, but their own attacks stop at half a heart. They eventually disappear, preventing one encounter from following you forever. Environmental hazards and other enemies can still finish the job.

## Three-Chapter Quest Campaign

A complete FTB Quests campaign guides the player through the experience.

### Chapter I: Signs in the Dark

Prepare for the first encounters by gathering food, lighting, navigation supplies, armor, and basic defensive equipment.

### Chapter II: Build the Rite

Search the Deep Dark, enter the Nether, fight the Wither, and obtain Netherite materials. These resources are required to forge the **Umbral Riteblade**.

### Chapter III: The Final Hunt

Complete the ritual, receive the one-use Ritual Stalker Spawn Egg, choose an arena, and summon the final version of the Nightmare Stalker.

JEI is included for viewing recipes. Clicking supported ingredients and items inside the quest book opens their JEI recipe directly.

## The Ritual Boss

The final Ritual Stalker is a direct and lethal boss encounter:

- 220 maximum health
- A visible red boss bar
- Stronger combat attributes
- No teleporting or attack-dodging
- No Darkness, Weakness, or Slowness effects
- Ordinary weapons cannot damage it
- Only the Umbral Riteblade can break through its protection
- The boss can deliver a killing blow

Defeating it transports the killer into the sealed **Heart Chamber**. A floating Nightmare Heart waits inside. Right-clicking it plays the final interaction sequence before returning the player to the exact location where the battle ended.

The Nightmare Heart is placed in the player's inventory. If the inventory is full, it safely drops at the return location.

## Stalker Beacon

The Nightmare Heart can be used to craft the Stalker Beacon.

When placed above a valid beacon pyramid with open sky, it grants three effects simultaneously:

- Night Vision
- Speed
- Resistance

Its range increases from 20 to 50 blocks based on the pyramid size. A complete four-level pyramid upgrades Speed and Resistance to level II.

## Visual Edition

The Visual Edition improves presentation without changing Minecraft into an unrelated content pack.

It includes:

- A custom Umbral Hunt main menu
- Full first-person player-body rendering
- Improved first-person and third-person animations
- 3D player skin layers
- Fresh player and vanilla-entity animations
- Complementary Reimagined shaders
- Improved vanilla-style textures
- Enhanced particles and water wakes
- Sound occlusion and environmental reverberation
- Smoother biome-color transitions
- Improved advancement, effect, chat, and recipe interfaces
- Zoom functionality
- Performance and memory optimizations

## Focused Horror

Umbral Hunt intentionally avoids adding:

- Other horror-creature mods
- Additional explorable dimensions
- New biomes or world-generation systems
- Large equipment or technology systems
- Unrelated bosses or progression mechanics

The Nightmare Stalker remains the central threat throughout the experience.

## Multiplayer

The campaign supports multiplayer and dedicated servers. Players can share quest progression through FTB Teams.

Every player must use the same Minecraft, Forge, Umbral Hunt, GeckoLib, and quest dependency versions. A separate server-files download is provided for server owners. Client-only shaders, resource packs, camera mods, and interface mods should not be installed on dedicated servers.

## Requirements

- Minecraft 1.20.1
- Forge 47.4.20
- Java 17
- Approximately 6 GB of allocated memory recommended

## Installation

1. Download the latest Umbral Hunt: Visual Edition file.
2. Open the CurseForge application.
3. Select **Create Custom Profile**.
4. Choose **Import**.
5. Select the downloaded CurseForge pack ZIP.
6. Allow CurseForge to install all referenced files.
7. Launch the profile using Java 17.

Back up important worlds before updating. Remove older Umbral Hunt JAR files if installing or upgrading manually.
