About

Description

Vis Viva (from the Latin for "living force") is a historical term used to describe a quantity similar to kinetic energy in an early formulation of the principle of conservation of energy.

A controversial theory proposed by Gottfried Leibniz.

This modpack is actively used and tested in production servers. Non release versions are subject to change and is not thoroughly tested.

What it is:

This modpack is made out of optimization mods including some radical ones. It is a semi-experimental modpack with heavy emphasis on performance, optimization, and resource usage.

It also is meant to be "set-up and forget" modpack. where it comes with Voice-Chat, Raknetify and Bedrock Edition support. Features that don't affect players who don't have these mods installed while enhancing players who do.

This modpack is meant to be used in Survival Multiplayer Servers. It comes with sitting as it is a feature widely loved by the playerbase and "Sleepwarp" where the night speeds up instead of just skipping the night, the speed of which is increased with every player sleeping.

It also comes with cheating prevention mods like Anti-Xray

The Motivation

There is a lack of modpacks for server optimization specifically, and the existing modpacks tend to not have all the optimization they can have. This modpack tries to squeeze all the performance it can and add support for widely loved mods like Voicechat, Raknetify which barely changes performance. There is also Geyser which does affect performance but only when a bedrock client starts playing.

The world can be upgraded or transferred to a vanilla server with no problems. You would need to reverse the cesium world format to Minecraft's anvil format but it is reversable we no longer use cesium

Q&A

Aren't you a Vanilla Modpack? Why add Sitting? As mentioned above sitting is a widely loved addition by the community. I chose this specific mod so it cannot be abused or be disruptive to gameplay. Players can also install the mod client side to further configure the behaviour of the mod
Aren't you a Vanilla Modpack? Why add Sleepwarp? This is more of a personal preference thing. In multiplayer environments sleeping just feels lame. I think the more people sleeping the faster the night goes instead of just it being a binary

1 or 0 thing is better. Server admins can configure or remove the behaviour if needed.

Adding mods like Geyser, and ViaFabric add complexity and performance hits. Why have them? That is true but these mods' performance hits come from a client joining the server and the performance hit of these mods on idle is negligible. Their benefits outweigh the cons.
Why add mods like Cesium and Sepals? they are radical mods. One of the reasons why this modpack is called [Vis Viva] is because it was a radical theory. This modpack is made to test the limits of Minecraft optimization.

Note: Cesium was removed due to being too much work to change it back to the Anvil Format, i might add it as a optional mod.

A little reminder that Optimization isn't just performance but also comes down to resource effectiveness (this may be doing a mathmematical calculation with less resource usage. or making something like the world size take up less space in the computer) Optimization is The design and operation of a system or process to make it as good as possible in some defined sense.

Please note that this modpack may slightly change vanilla behaviour and is not suitable for speedruns. there should be no noticeable difference in normal gameplay if not explicitly stated.

Benchmarks

349 Frogs, 260 Villagers were summoned on a 2 GB ram server and TPS didn't drop below 20 more then 1500 tnt minecarts were summoned and were exploded at the same time with tps going down by only 0.68. MSPT averaged around 6.93 only spiking when TNT minecarts exploded.

CPU usage never went higher then 3% (Ryzen 7900x3d)
