Alchemy Life

Don't just click a recipe. Brew it.

Alchemy Life is a hands-on alchemy mod inspired by the alchemy of Kingdom Come: Deliverance II. Walk up to the Alchemy Bench, pick your ingredients and do every step by hand: pour the liquid, grind in the mortar, pump the bellows, watch the hourglass, stir, distill and bottle. Do it well and you get a Perfect potion. Do it badly and you get something much weaker, or nothing at all.

Standalone: no other mods required. NeoForge 1.21.1.

🧪 The Alchemy Bench

  • A 3-block workbench you operate with your cursor in a first-person "bench view" (mouse wheel to zoom).
  • Everything is animated, with particles and sounds: cauldron, jug, mortar & pestle, spoon, bellows, hourglass, still and phial.
  • Real steps: base liquid (water, wine, oil, distillate), grinding, adding ingredients, boiling at 3 heat levels, stirring, distilling and bottling.
  • Order and timing matter. Mistakes lower your score or ruin the mixture.
  • Open the recipe book any time with B or the on-screen button, and abandon a brew whenever you want.

📜 40 recipes, each with its own technique

  • 30 common recipes and 10 rare ones. No two recipes share the same steps: infusion, thermal shock, triple distillation, whirlpool stirring, deep forging and more.
  • Each recipe has its own scroll icon, and the book tells you the "signature" technique of each one.
  • 5 starter recipes. The rest come as scrolls found in chests, bought from villagers, or discovered through experimentation.
  • Rare recipes need rare ingredients (echo shards, nautilus shells, heart of the sea, netherite scrap…). Their potions combine 2 to 4 effects and glow like enchanted items.
  • Rare recipes drop as Torn Scroll Fragments: put 3 matching fragments in a crafting table to assemble the scroll.

🔬 Free Mode: experiment!

  • Mix whatever you want, in any order. If it matches a recipe, you discover it. If not, you create a brand new Mixture potion.
  • Every ingredient has a hidden property that you learn by using it.
  • 7 special effects change the rules: Extend, Crystallize, Empower, Concentrate, Invert, Stabilize and Refine.
  • Every tool matters: the mortar doubles an ingredient's weight, the liquid changes the duration, the still purifies…

⭐ Quality everywhere

  • Herbs and many vanilla plants and items now have 1 to 5 stars: from crops, mob drops, fishing and crafting. Better ingredients make better potions.
  • Potion levels: Weak, Standard, Strong and Perfect.
  • Alchemist Fame: 6 ranks from Apprentice to Alchemy Legend. Higher ranks mean better harvests and a chance of double potions.

🌿 Herbs and farming

  • 6 wild herbs: Chamomile, Sage, Nettle, Belladonna, Mint and Mandrake. Each gives better stars under specific conditions (day, night or rain).
  • Herb Planter: grows herbs in stages. Water nearby and bone meal make it faster and improve the stars. Right-click to see the growth time.
  • Drying Rack: hang herbs to dry them and gain +1 star.

🧙 The Alchemist villager

  • New villager profession that works at the Alchemy Bench, with its own house in villages.
  • Trades range from herbs and planters to scrolls and potions, and at master level, rare fragments and Perfect potions.

⚙️ Extras

  • Config screen (Mods → Potions Life → Config): easy mode, boil tolerance, scroll chance, plant quality and more.
  • Two creative tabs, one just for the recipe scrolls.
  • Languages: English and Português (Brasil).
  • Test commands (OP): /alchemy list, learn, learnall, forget, fame.

❓ FAQ

Does it need other mods? No. Why can't I find herbs or the Alchemist house? They only generate in newly created chunks and villages. How do I learn recipes? Find or buy scrolls, assemble rare fragments, or experiment in Free Mode. Found a bug? Please report it with your latest.log. This is a first release!
