Description

Amethyst Excavation

Infuse your pickaxe with amethyst and choose your reach — 1x1, 1x3, or 3x3 blocks per swing — without adding a single new item or touching your enchantments.

Features

  • Permanent, not an enchantment — the infusion carries no glint and takes no enchantment slot. Survives a grindstone and diamond-to- netherite smithing right along with everything else on the tool.
  • Plays by vanilla's rules — every extra block breaks with the exact drops, experience, durability cost and protection checks a normal swing would apply. Nothing protected or out of your tool's reach ever breaks.
  • Works with other mods' pickaxes too — anything tagged #minecraft:pickaxes qualifies, not just the vanilla five.
  • Preview before you swing — a subtle outline traces what's about to break. Turn it off from the Mod Menu screen or by editing the client config directly — Mod Menu isn't required either way.
  • Quiet feedback — switching modes gets a brief action bar message and an amethyst chime.
  • Built for multiplayer — the server is the only source of truth; every player keeps an independent mode without stepping on anyone else's.

How it works

Surround a pickaxe you already own — name, enchantments and damage intact — with four amethyst shards in a cross (above, below, left and right) on a crafting table. Out comes the same pickaxe, now infused.

Infused pickaxe recipe and tooltip showing its current 1x3 area

Right-click (the vanilla Use Item control) to cycle through the three areas:

1x1 → 1x3 → 3x3 → 1x1

Holding sneak always forces a single-block precision break, no matter which mode is active.

1x1: no custom outline, just vanilla's own block-targeting box

1x1 draws nothing extra — that's vanilla's own block-targeting box, untouched.

1x3 area preview

1x3 gets the amethyst preview outline, with the active area shown in the action bar (Mining area: 1x3).

3x3 area preview

Same outline in 3x3, now covering the full plane.
