Description

Auto Food Background

Keep exploring, fighting, mining, and building while your food takes care of itself.

Auto Food Background adds a dedicated Auto Food slot to the Curios inventory. Place a stack of food in the apple-marked slot and the mod will automatically consume it when your hunger drops far enough—all in the background, without switching your hotbar slot or forcing an eating animation.

Why use it?

Vanilla eating is simple, but it can break the rhythm of combat, mining sessions, large builds, or modded weapon gameplay. Auto Food Background keeps that rhythm intact while still consuming real food through Minecraft's normal item-use behavior.

That means food can retain its usual:

  • nutrition;
  • saturation;
  • potion or status effects;
  • remaining container item;
  • modded Food Properties.

Features

  • A dedicated one-stack Auto Food Curios slot.
  • Quiet server-side background consumption.
  • No hotbar switching.
  • No eating animation.
  • No interruption to movement, combat, mining, building, or weapon reloads.
  • Dynamic mode that waits until enough hunger is missing for the selected food.
  • Configurable fixed hunger threshold from 1 to 20 food points.
  • Support for vanilla food and most standards-compliant modded food.
  • Safe handling of non-food items: they are ignored and never consumed.
  • A clean monochrome apple slot icon.
  • English and Indonesian slot names.

Dynamic hunger logic

By default, Auto Food Background avoids wasting nutrition.

For example:

  • an Apple restores 4 food points, so it is eaten at food level 16 or lower;
  • Bread restores 5, so it is eaten at 15 or lower;
  • Steak restores 8, so it is eaten at 12 or lower.

Prefer one consistent trigger for every food? Set a fixed threshold in the configuration file instead.

Configuration

After the first launch, edit:

config/autofoodbackground-common.toml
enabled = true
hunger_threshold = 0
  • enabled=true enables background auto-eating.
  • hunger_threshold=0 uses the food's nutrition value dynamically.
  • A value from 1 to 20 uses a fixed missing-hunger threshold.

Requirements

  • Minecraft Forge.
  • Curios API Forge for the exact same Minecraft version.
  • Java 17.
  • Install the mod on both the client and server for multiplayer.

Available builds

  • Minecraft 1.20.1 — stable 1.1.2 baseline.
  • Minecraft 1.20.2 — dedicated compatibility build.
  • Minecraft 1.20.4 — dedicated compatibility build.

Download and install only the JAR that exactly matches your Minecraft version. Do not mix multiple Auto Food Background JARs in one instance.

Modpack policy

You may include Auto Food Background in public or private modpacks under the terms of the MIT License. A link back to the project page is appreciated.

Spend less time managing the hotbar and more time playing. Put food in the slot, let hunger decide when it is needed, and keep moving.
