Description
Back Command
Died far from home? Respawn, type /trigger back, and you are standing where
you died - in the Overworld or the Nether. Once per death.
No mod. No operator rights. Nothing for players to install: the server has the datapack, everyone gets a back command.
How it works
| Die | Minecraft remembers where - the datapack reads the game's own death point |
| Respawn | A clickable hint appears in chat: /trigger back |
Type /trigger back |
You are teleported to the centre of the block where you died |
| Other dimension? | Works across dimensions - die in the Nether, respawn in your bed, go straight back |
| Once per death | A second /trigger back is refused until you die again (adjustable) |
| Died in the void? | Refused - going back there would only kill you again |
Because Minecraft itself keeps track of the last death point, /trigger back
even works for deaths that happened before you installed the datapack.
Settings
/scoreboard players set #once back_cfg 1 one return per death (default)
/scoreboard players set #once back_cfg 0 unlimited returns to the last death point
The setting survives restarts and /reload.
Installation
Server
- Put the
.zipinto<level-name>/datapacks/ /reload, or restart the server
Singleplayer
- Put the
.zipinto.minecraft/saves/<world>/datapacks/ /reload
Works on a world you already play. It changes no world data, adds no items and no recipes.
Why a datapack and not a mod
A back command usually comes bundled in a large server mod or plugin, with a loader to keep in step and a pile of commands you never asked for.
This is a datapack that does exactly one thing:
- Server-side only. Players install nothing.
- No operator rights needed.
/triggeris open to every player by design. - The loader does not matter - anything that runs vanilla datapacks runs this.
Tested, not assumed
Every promise on this page is checked by an automated test on a real Minecraft server:
| Check | |
|---|---|
| Back to the death point, centred on the block (also at negative coordinates) | ✅ |
| Back into another dimension (Nether) | ✅ |
| Death in the void is refused | ✅ |
| Second use after one death is refused | ✅ |
#once 0 lifts the limit |
✅ |
| Never died - refused with a message | ✅ |
FAQ
Is this a cheat? It saves you the walk back, not the fight: you still drop your items and lose your experience when you die. You only get to the place faster.
Can I use it in singleplayer? Yes, the same way.
Can players teleport anywhere else with it? No. The only destination is your own last death point.
What if I died in lava? You are sent back to that spot. Deaths in the void are the only ones refused.
