Description
Back in Place
Die, pick your stuff back up, and it goes right back where it was.
Minecraft 1.21.1 · Fabric · requires Fabric API
When you die, your items scatter. When you pick them back up, Minecraft puts them wherever it likes: the sword ends up in the backpack, torches take the pickaxe slot, and the armor has to be put on again. This mod remembers which slot every item was in and puts everything back.
How it works
- Pick up: an item goes straight back to its old slot if that slot is free. Armor is re-equipped, the shield or totem returns to your offhand.
- Slot taken? If something else already took the slot, the item is picked up as usual. Press G: remembered items go back to their slots, and whatever was in the way moves to free slots.
- When every item is back in place, the remembered layout is cleared automatically.
Controls
| Key | Action |
|---|---|
| G | Put everything back according to the remembered layout |
| Shift + G | Forget the remembered layout |
- Works both in-game and with the inventory open (ignored while typing in the recipe book search).
- Rebind it in Options → Controls → Key Binds → Back in Place.
- There are no chat commands and no config file: the mod works out of the box.
Messages
| Message | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Everything is back in place! | All remembered items are in their slots, the layout is cleared |
| Restored: X of Y | Some items are still on the ground or were lost |
| Layout forgotten | Shift + G was pressed |
| No layout remembered | Nothing to restore |
| Back in Place is not installed on the server | The mod is only on your client |
Details
- Hotbar, inventory, armor and offhand are all remembered.
- Items are matched by type, enchantments and name. Durability doesn't matter, so a tool repaired by Mending or a scratched armor piece still finds its slot. Identical items with different durability each go back to their own slot.
- Dying again before you collect everything keeps the first layout and updates it with what you've already picked up.
- The layout survives leaving the world.
- Does nothing with
keepInventoryon. Items with Curse of Vanishing are not remembered. - Armor with Curse of Binding is never moved.
- If there is no free space at all, a displaced item is dropped at your feet.
Installation
Required on both client and server. For singleplayer, just drop the jar into your mods folder together with Fabric API.
