About

Description

Backrooms: Project NoClip is a Minecraft horror mod focused on exploration, survival, and psychological horror.

You do not always choose when you enter the Backrooms. Unstable portals can randomly appear in the Overworld, and walking into one can send you into Level 0. Players can also craft an Unstable Compass, which helps locate a way into the Backrooms.

Once you enter, you will explore large procedural levels that continue generating as you move. Each level has its own layout, atmosphere, dangers, and ways to escape.

The mod currently includes Level 0, Level 1, and Level 2.

Unstable Compass Recipe

Craft an Unstable Compass to help locate an entrance into the Backrooms.

Keep in mind that the compass only helps you find an entrance. It will not protect you from what is waiting on the other side.

Level 0 — The Lobby

Level 0 is a huge maze of yellow walls, wet carpet, buzzing fluorescent lights, and dark empty rooms.

The layout changes as the world generates, so every trip can feel different. Some areas are bright and open, while others are dark, cramped, and harder to escape from.

The longer you remain inside, the more dangerous the level can become.

Level 1 — Parking Zone

Level 1 is an endless underground parking garage filled with concrete rooms, pillars, pipes, parked cars, puddles, supply areas, and maintenance halls.

The power can randomly shut off, leaving entire sections in darkness. Players may need to locate a power box and restore the electricity before something finds them.

Level 1 also contains maintenance halls that can lead deeper into the Backrooms. Some maintenance floors can be noclipped through, sending the player into Level 2.

Level 2 — Pipe Dreams

Level 2 is a long network of narrow industrial hallways filled with pipes, machinery, leaking water, puddles, and flickering fluorescent lights.

Some hallways are bright, while others can be almost completely dark. Pipes run through the walls and ceilings, and the sound of distant machinery can make it difficult to tell when something is nearby.

Level 2 is more dangerous than the previous levels. Dark sections may contain a Smiler waiting for a player to get too close.

- Entities -

The Bacteria

The Bacteria is a fast and aggressive creature that can search through rooms, investigate noises, and chase players across large areas.

It can climb over obstacles, remember where it last detected someone, and continue searching after losing sight of its target.

The Duller

The Duller is a tall, quiet creature found in Level 1.

It does not fight like a normal Minecraft mob. It hides behind walls, watches players from a distance, and waits for the right moment to reach through a wall and drag someone away.

Running directly toward it may cause it to flee, but that does not mean the player is safe.

The Smiler

The Smiler is a fast creature that prefers dark areas.

It naturally appears in Level 2 and can rarely appear inside dark rooms in Level 1. While roaming Level 1, it avoids brightly lit rooms and searches through darker areas.

Once it sees a player, it can quickly chase them through hallways. Its glowing eyes and grin may be the only parts visible in the darkness.

Simple Voice Chat Support

The mod has optional support for Simple Voice Chat.

When Simple Voice Chat is installed, the Bacteria, Duller, and Smiler can hear players speaking through their microphones.

How far an entity can hear someone depends on:

  • How loudly the player is speaking
  • The distance between the player and the entity
  • Whether the player is whispering
  • How many walls are between them
  • Server configuration settings

Simple Voice Chat is optional. Backrooms: Project NoClip will still work without it installed.
