About

Description

This extremely simple Fabric mod not only adds the ability to set Ominous Banners ablaze to give the player a level of Bad Omen, but also addresses a vanilla behavior I've always disagreed with - the ability to remove the Bad Omen and Hero of the Village status effects by consuming milk.

Milk's ability to remove potion effects is brilliant, however in the case of these two effects it simply doesn't make sense, and also removes some of the challenge posed by pillagers and their raids especially. As such, this mod removes the ability to clear these two effects by drinking milk (other mods which add milk substitutes should also not clear these, but if anyone finds one that does please let me know!). Presently this mod does not add an alternative way to remove these effects, however I definitely want and plan to add one, so if anyone has any suggestions I would love to hear them!

To make up for the fact that now players will be forced to have the Bad Omen effect for longer periods of time, this mod also prevents these effects from producing particles around the player. This makes more sense anyways, since these effects have nothing to do with magic or potions and are purely social in nature. This mod also slightly changes the Hero of the Village effect. Now, the player will start to lose the Hero of the Village status effect if they attack a villager once with the effect active, and will lose it completely if they do so twice. No more beating your admirers!

In addition, as of update 1.1.0, this mod now adds the ability to set Ominous Banners on fire. Doing so will randomly (roughly every three to four banners) grant the player a level of Bad Omen, up to the maximum value of five set by the base game. This addresses another odd vanilla behavior - Ominous Banners become little more than an annoyance once their initial gimmick has worn off, and players tend to end up with dozens of the useless items once raids become more common. This mod should now give them an actual use.

Here is a video demonstration of this effect:

Hopefully this mod will add a little more challenge and sense to your games, and make pillagers feel like more of a threat! (Especially in the early game)

This does not require Fabric API. Feel free to use this in any modpack, no permission required!
