About

Description

Better Mob Heads

Mob Heads is a server-side Minecraft Java Edition datapack that gives supported vanilla mobs without an existing vanilla head item a decorative custom head when they die. The pack uses real minecraft-heads.com textures from the public MinecraftHeads CDN and applies simple score-driven loot logic with Looting support.

Patreon

What It Does

  • Every supported mob in this pack can drop a decorative custom player_head that matches that mob's texture.
  • Looting increases the drop chance, bosses can be guaranteed, and charged creepers trigger a best-effort guaranteed-drop pulse for nearby mobs.

Supported Mobs

  • Overworld hostile: Zombie Villager, Husk, Drowned, Stray, Bogged, Spider, Cave Spider, Enderman, Witch, Slime, Silverfish, Endermite, Phantom, Pillager, Vindicator, Evoker, Ravager, Vex, Breeze, Blaze
  • Overworld passive/neutral: Pig, Cow, Sheep, Chicken, Rabbit, Fox, Wolf, Cat, Horse, Donkey, Mule, Llama, Axolotl, Frog, Allay, Bee, Turtle, Panda, Polar Bear, Goat, Bat, Squid, Glow Squid, Cod, Salmon, Tropical Fish, Pufferfish, Dolphin
  • Nether: Piglin, Piglin Brute, Zombified Piglin, Ghast, Hoglin, Zoglin, Strider
  • End and rare mobs: Shulker, Ender Dragon, Elder Guardian, Guardian, Warden, Iron Golem, Snow Golem, Villager, Wandering Trader, Giant

Drop Rates

Mob group Base Looting I Looting II Looting III Notes
Standard mobs 5% 10% 15% 20% Default rate for most supported mobs
Iron Golem, Snow Golem 10% 15% 20% 25% Higher starting rate for player-built mobs
Warden, Elder Guardian 100% 100% 100% 100% Guaranteed reward mobs
Charged creeper pulse 100% 100% 100% 100% Best-effort forced custom head drop for supported mobs near a powered creeper just before detonation

Charged Creeper Mechanic

This is the closest reliable datapack-only approximation to a true charged-creeper kill check when using scoreboard-driven mob death detection.
